Well, unlike the "savage" tribes of - let's say - Central America, or Africa, who were eager practitioners of human sacrifice, the Hebrews were only used to sacrificial offering of objects, food, and an occasional, harmless farm animal. When Jesus proposed that he is about to sacrifice himself for their sins, they must have been exhilarated! Not only was he hard-core, but he wasn't going to do it to others - uh-huh! He was about to perform a fatality kick to himself, consciously and willingly.
I believe that's what got a huge part of them on his side. Games and bread. Well, sorta... the bread is the body, and the game is a fucking-nailing-to-the-cross-endurance-survival!

Extremes - Christianity is an experienced religion - not only have they 'borrowed' from all mythologies they were aware of, but they also learned from their mistakes. And extremes are the things that get you to sign up eventually.

Agreed. The best comedians are not afraid to mock everything, including their own beliefs, as well as themselves.

A better analogy is if someone rapes your daughter & you want justice to be served, just because you're a loving top bloke you slaughter your innocent son so that the raper can be redeemed from his wrong doing.
