Ok, I'm a huge Denzel fan but this movie was just.......bleh. It does much better as a stage play. The movie even feels like a stage play with static sets for the most part. It's up for an Oscar but I doubt it will win. It was very dry. Both Denzel and Viola did the play for 8 years and you can definitely tell, their performances smack of "stage training". The film has a good STORY, but that story is best told on stage, not in front of the camera.

Sometimes the stage can be a bit more entertaining, especially in a front row seat. Some movies though do have a great plot line and do well.

Uh oh. I was ready to drop money on some tickets too and cry buckets.
The trailers looked so good...

My roommate said the same thing. He was more excited to see it than I was, and I'm the movie buff in the house! But, we both agreed that it's a great story but one that should be told on stage.
