Otherwise, you might as well be pushing to fill up the Occult section with armchair magicians. It seems better to try and coax more creativity and quality work from what we have going now.

And of course, you're always going to have problems with post quality if people just want a place to hang out.

I agree.

You sold your soul to me, need I remind you?

That is the problem right here, Emrys. You enjoying the forum nowadays because the occult section has something of your liking. There are others who just want to hang out and leave without much regards for the occult. No one seems to think they deserve a voice. Giving the way you described it, it seems like the only thing good the forum is the occult side and those other parts will dilute the overall quality it holds at the moment.

Well I won't deny that. Wizard Forums is the only platform I use for magical discussion at the moment apart from email with a few close correspondents.

But, I also enjoy the atmosphere and the people, as well as the topics involved. We have members capable of serious discussion, but when that isn't required people are quite happy to just socialise as well. It's a good environment, most of the time.

If someone who is developing new techniques, or exploring underground chemistry, political activism, and so forth, wants to come and post threads in the Anarchists Playground, then I'll participate in, and encourage those threads.

I will explain. I value this forum for two reasons. Mainly, it is an information resource, secondarily it is a place to socialise. As an information resource, members with non-Occult interests are still very relevant, if they are producing quality original content in their respective fields.

Secondly, I value this forums as a social platform. I find it preferable to others because, as a product of what we do, many of the people here a quite open minded, and also often quite insightful. One of the problems we have had, that I have observed anyway, with the increase of practitioners here is that many non-practitioner members simply aren't in their element socially. Quite a few have left, or toned down their involvement because they were not comfortable with the conversation, and the viewpoints.

And this is another problem, at least for me. I'm often told that I'm a pretty weird guy. If members that I don't share an interest in magic with are reasonably affable and open-minded, then I can socialise with them on other levels. However, most people who like to remain closer to the social norm are much less likely to blend well with myself, and with the current community.
