I havent found that to be the case as long as you have a good relationship with them.

Most people nowadays just treat spirits like slaves.

Would you be super happy to help someone who only calls you when they need something?

^^^^ oh i had soooo thought this. But surely not everyone is like that. The balance and views vary its like trying to balance on a pencil tip.

Personal choice i suppose. Whats that magic school bus driver say. Make mistakes and get messy?

Its sort of a complex topic. You technically do only call on spirits when you need something.
ie. Needing to grow closer to a spirit to find out more about them;
performing altar work or devotional work, etc.

I think it'd be better to say, its bad to only call on a spirit with no regard to nurturing a working, long-term relationship with them.

Well yeah its fine to make mistakes and get messy when you have a master watching out for you.

But almost no one in the western world actually does magic most are just doing a more expensive version of d&d.

There are probably less than 10 Miss Frizzles in the west, and thats being generous.

Wha wha whaaaaaat? I didnt even think there was even one miss frizzle? Damn, thats a magic schoolbus adventure.

10..... Damn maan!

Thinking on the nurturing of a spirit relationship almost made me imagine the relationship as a baby to be tended to and grown til full maturation. The relationship... Spirits i guess can be any shape.

Similar to say looking at it from a plant perspective and growing the relationship.

Or molding the relationship from clay.

Or painting it adding details.

Or chiselling it.

Or forging it from molten force.

Growing a burning fire from a tiny ember.

Growing an ever more elaborate snowflake from a ice drop.

Etc etc...
