We believe we do, because that feels nice and makes us feel all uplifted and inspired.
Don't trust things that feel nice, unless they cost a lot.
Really it's kinda a dimensional thing. You're going to be yourself... so it's not like anyone's twisting your arm. But without direct intervention from outside our linear experience of time, you're going to be yourself in a way that progresses with causality through a probability field in a rather newtonian predictable way.
Its kinda like sleepwalking. You're doing it, but you're going to do it how you're going to do it. Rarely are we in a position to deviate in a willful manner.
But perhaps a more utilitarian question is, which belief about free will is most useful to your experience of life? A convenient lie can be useful. And there's even a bit of fake it till you make it, involved.
We have an undeniable individual awareness, and within the framework of that awareness we have volition. We can do great or meaningless things, or awful things, by choice, and no part of nature compels our choices. Our thoughts and memories are mere chemicals upstairs, but the act of deciding is an exercise of will, the point of interface between physical and spiritual existence.
Are you "free" in the exercise of this will?
You have played Super Mario. You are the little plumber, and you do the things he does, and the plumber acts as though he is the game character. He is restricted to the elements of his game world, and limited to what was programmed for his game character. But the player works according to a whole other set of rules and circumstances, entirely exterior to the game. This is my analogy for the human spirit within the human consciousness, that we are not merely drivers of our chariots of flesh, but that the flesh itself is merely symbolic.
@evilkra I asked the question because of the idea of Predeterminism and with the knowledge that coincidence doesn’t exist. What are these ‘universal laws’ and the extent of your last sentence’s message? (so I understand the warning you seem to imply)
dont act as another being, obey other beings free will, dont try to materialize yourself to places if you are not invited, and dont stirr useless shit.. last one is just kinda manner, but assholes will not be tolarated..
lots of common sense..
and to the other thing.. i dont think coincidences exist, universe is mechanic.. in some level.. with high enough conciousness you learn patterns and can almsot map everything that has happened as non coincidental, or just say GOD to thinks that you cant understand :)
TLDR: dont act like bitch and you will have free will outside of matrix
