The site supposedly being taken down by a hex led to me talking to a friend, who told me about their incredibly unlikely amount of bad luck. Like the universe personally hates them amount of bad luck.
It got me thinking, how would one identify a hex or curse (not sure if there's much difference, I apologize)? I mostly focus on Direct Magick, specifically Psionics, but I am curious. Are there generally ways to identify such things? Where would be the best places to read up on such information to learn more and possibly break them?
There is a human tendency to elevate the importance or impact of events in our own lives above those of others. This is natural. However, it can lead to estimating that our struggles are more 'epic' than those others face, and at that point there is a strong possibility of falling into both egomania and depression.
Your friend has a one in a million chance of *actually* having bad luck that is worse than a million random other people. And even if it did happen, well... sometimes people win the lottery, it happens. Someone, somewhere, out there... has luck worse than everyone else in the world... and anyone who thinks that they are that person, is (by an astronomical margin) likely deluded. Everyone believes in Murphey's Law, because we cognitively weight events directly affecting us unrealistically.
Life sucks and then you die. The trick is NOT to have a life that doesn't suck. The trick is not caring that it sucks, and having fun anyway.
If someone feels cursed, 99 out of 100 times there is something within themselves which is holding them back, or causing them to overly dramatize their misfortunes.
The best cure is to strive, overcome, dig in, never give up, and push oneself to excel and flourish, even when the universe seems uncooperative. And don't forget to smile, not because good things happen, but in spite of bad things happening.
In my experience, coming under attack from hexes or curses is rare. The people who are willing to cast them often lack the focus to preform them correctly because they are blinded by anger, jealousy etc. etc.
Curses are more likely to recoil on the caster before they do any damage out on the intended target. Often you need only to look into a mirror to see the cause of a 'curse'. Personal experience.
It is interesting to note that, while following the Path of the occultnik, how easily paranoia can set in, especially when one is taking their first steps. One bad week becomes some sort of harrowing cosmic initiation, or the work of some cult trying to kill you.
This is rarely ever the case as occultniks, like ourselves, are few. That, and many of us are so caught up in our own lives to worry about exacting revenge for every small slight committed against us. Those who do go on the attack for every transgression, often isolate themselves and go mad.
Personally, the best way to avoid curses is to look at oneself. Are you preforming rituals correctly? Could you have offended spirits by not making the proper offerings, or using the wrong incantations? Are you not taking care of yourself, your health, or your mental well being? If the answer is no to all of these, then I would consider the likelihood of having been cursed.
If someone cast a curse against you, the most likely way to get rid of it is by doing the same thing they did except to use their technique in a different way. If they used a spell, use a spell to break it. If they simply cursed you by saying "I curse you", say "I break this curse. If they visualized a curse on you, visualize it being removed.
Here are some visualization I've used.
The first is the coin box technique. You have a coin box in your mind's eye, this represents you and everything inside is all the curses/hexes/black magic that have been done on you. They will be in the form of coins. Remove the coins one by one, from your little coin box. You are removing them from yourself.
The second technique is to imagine your hand in your mind's eye. In your bloodstream is where the black magic/hex lies. Cut a small slit on your hand, and use a picking item to draw out black goo which represents the hexes placed on you.
I've tested these techniques and they work. I hope they work for your friend.
This might prove useful, thanks. That said, I never heard of a program like this that runs on the computer, the other sites I heard of usually involved shipping an entity bound to a construct to the person who ordered it instead.
Let me say that curses generally follow a pattern of repeat occurrences over time. This from my experience is the best way from a physical point of view. The second would be to put one of your hairs or nail filings in a glass of water and command the water to reveal curses in a dream.Third of course would be to analyse recent dream content, this always reveals whether a curse exists and its cause/effects.
