Kaleidos was a name given to me by the angel of Pluto, which I understand as the one needful thing without which you cannot live, and, in truth, it defines my relationship to theurgy and to my complex relationship with the Western Mystery Tradition in whole and in part because the angel in question leads us with every step into that space of unknowing which we call death, be it physical or otherwise. And it will give you what you ask for, always...but there is a catch. You will not be there to enjoy it, because Azrael, as the evolutionary trajectory of your own soul is the cup from which you dare not drink, and in regards to it you are like the bread-and-butter-fly with the head of a sugar cube. Warm tea is your only sustenance and the cup of your crucifixion is all but brimming with it. And to this angel I once said, I will not let you go except you bless me. And it stands at the crossroads of Understanding, there where I end and the Other begins, partaking of equal parts clarity and confusion. It offers me magick, which makes of my life an endless blessing, inseparable from the hell that I have made of it. And I ask myself, whom do I serve, for I would give up the Grail for the redemption of Kundry, and for her alone -- alone for Her -- would I give up the alchemical gold even if it meant the betrayal of all that I hold most sacred. Or would I? The angel at the crossroads is a twin, and his twin is a trickster god, Christ-Lucifer, and in his presence I am both Judas and John to myself, for magick addresses all of me, and coming home….it just hurts in the most beautiful way. And here at this table the angel rises up to contend with me. Again. For magick is the embrace of the light within darkness and the embrace of the darkness within light. It is Kaleidos.
