I'm not talking Geotia Spirits, I mean spirits that haunting homes, graveyards, etc.

I have a few ideas how I could go about trapping, binding spirits but I have no idea really. I'm not talking about enslaving spirits or causing harm to them rather stopping them from harming other people and even pets.

Inhale them. Tim Powers came up with this.
That almost sounds like possession, and in which it is. It sounds like I could trap them into my vessel of bones, blood and flesh I'd rather not allow an entity that could be potentially dangerous to live inside of my very being.

I highly recommend avoiding graveyards for trying to find spirits to work with. It’s not a popular opinion, but honestly thats the place we’re you’ll find the least amount of them. Most of the people there have been buried long ago and aren’t hanging around anymore. Good spots are outside of hospitals, major intersections, shit even just standing outside your house.

If you come across a spirit, before jumping straight to “binding” (And I put that in quotes bc IMO, you get the best results by making a pact or contract with that spirit instead of trapping them. It opens the door for major backfiring later), go into dialog with them. Use whatever divination tool you prefer or use your mediumship abilities. If mediumship is something thats not a strong point for you, practice that before jumping into trying to force a spirit to do something against their will. They still have free will too.

Get annointed oil from an apostolic church. Get a bible as well.

On each wall, window, door, floor and ceiling, do this:
Draw an equal armed cross on the surface
Recite loudly psalms 91 and give license to depart.

stopping them from harming other people
On occasion I have sucked the astral energy out of a spirit - passing the energy out my head. After that the locals no longer complained about being scared at night on that path through the trees.

That technique is only safe if the entity's energy does not resonate with (stick to) your own.

I'm not really adding anything but I thought of the way strong liquor is called "spirits", and how that is bound in a bottle with a cap (mostly metal nowadays).

Might be a way. Put something enticing in an open bottle and then capture the spirit by putting the cap on it.

What sort of spirit is attracted by alcohol?

Could it be captured by a metal cap?
I didn't say it had to be alcohol. Might just as well be a picture of your mom's butt.

As for the metal cap: recently on here there was a thread about the athame / sword and its power over spirits. In there it was said that the iron (of Mars) causes the fear.
When i thought about that it makes sense to me that stainless steel (or any other metal that doesn't rust) is better because oxydisation shows that air is stronger than iron. And bottle caps generally have a protective layer that prevents said rusting.

But the bottle isn't made of metal!
Than wrap it in aluminum foil after you close it.

Yeah like the witches bottles that have been dig up a few times recently.

Adding spider webs sounds like something I would put inside too, as we all know that webs are sticky and meant to catch and entangle prey. Along with sea salt or perhaps even black salt mixed with iron powder and as Ownchef mentioned riddles and mazes. Since the idea is to trap a malevolent spirit I would even have symbols draw on the outside of the bottle.

I guess I could use the Fifth Pentacle of Mars to command a malevolent spirit into the bottle. I'm not sure anymore but I think it would be best to stick to banishing instead because as ryen mention as well, probably best to practice mediumship.\

If I did manage to bind a spirit inside a bottle, how would I know that I did it correctly?

I read an article about those, and also about items sealed in the walls of houses such as shoes, dried cats and dogs and other items supposedly put there for protective purposes. I believe the witch bottles were used as a way to retaliate against suspected witches affecting members of the household - the victim's urine is sealed in the bottle and it is place under the hearth, hopefully to afflict the witch with UTI or something.

Yazata's cap and aluminum wrap suggestion makes sense, though you can also find stainless steel bottles with caps as well. I don't know what effect the inner lining of such bottles would have, if any. Maybe like padded walls in a cell? I find the arts and crafts side of this appealing and inspiring.

I would go for a plastic spirits bottle with a steel lid myself. That way it can't break open, not as easily anyway.
How do you setup traps for spirits?
Someone told me about a flash paper device to make spirits feel unwelcome or to know without clairsentience someone entered my space.

Some metals, stones seem to have magic properties

Ok...question

why do you need to trap them?

if it’s in your house then just banish them

if it’s somewhere else...I still wouldn’t do it, if they get out they will get pissed n go after you

perhaps it be better to offer them something so they are at peace...or just not bug them. Again idk the situation
