A familiar is a thought form/tulpa/egregor & all those are what alot of people try contacting & became ancient gods/goddesses/angels/demons/spirits/aliens u can create your own or adopt a long last forgotten one.

But personally it's better to spend the time & effort to give birth to your own familiar & originally familiars were to take all your negative energy sent at u & disease a physical pet is not a familiar unless a ritual was performed to empty the vessel & replace it with a different state. Even than the physical familiar is a defensive tool

At one point I asked Bune to give me a familiar. He answered immediately. He also told me exactly what I was to do and not do with said familiar. It wasnt hard, I just asked. My intention was that I felt a bit guilty asking Bune for things, as he is one of my teachers and I do not treat my teachers like ATMs, or infernal Santa Claus, hence asking for a familiar.

It worked and everything I asked for, I got. Like to the letter. I highly recommend.

Regarding familiars being thoughtforms, I guess that could be true, but I dont think that is the case with demons and their familiars. I believe those familiars are lower ranking demons. I cant prove that, but the thoughtform aspect seems weird to me in that particular case. I could be wrong.

Agreed! The idea that all spirits are glorified thoughtforms seems to be a trending dogma, but it's wrong. If you've ever worked with the dead or with nature spirits, it is clear that these things have some real existence and character independent of our creation of them. I can sort of understand the appeal of the "thoughtform" idea: from observing the ways that major deities transform over time, it is tempting to conclude that these are just our projected and empowered conceptualizations. But the thing is, spirits are much trickier than that. They do tend to fit themselves to our ways of working with them, but they are also much more than that. People go wrong trying to fit spirits into any simple, easily graspable concepts.

In any case, even if it is true that the gods and demons are just generational "thoughtforms," it does not at all follow that one ought to just create their own. You're only one person. The idea that you could create something with the depth, wisdom, and power of a being that has been the result of a 1000+ years of cultural focus is just puerile.

I'm curious to hear more about your experience with your Bune-given familiar. Did it's strengths and abilities fall within a generally Bune-ish scope and domain? Also, do you find the grimoiric descriptions of Bune's area of expertise to be generally accurate, or do you work with Bune on a much wider range of issues?

Your recommendation is quite intriguing. I may well have to try requesting a Bune familiar, but I don't have an established relationship with Bune, so it may not be the same for me.

Yeah, I can’t help but think that at least some of the “all spirits are thoughtforms” trend is a kneejerk reaction masking fear and a need for control. If spirits are actually other, then what does that mean? I can see that putting serious pressure on someone’s internal framework. Making spirits into thoughtforms allows the practitioner to feel more in control and therefore risk less.

Fair enough, though. To each their own. Who am I to determine someone else’s experience?

The flip side is that if spirits are other, the practitioner can also dodge responsibility by blaming everything on “spirit guidance,” so it cuts both ways.

As for the Bune familiar, the spirit Bune assigned to me was for a short period of time and came with very explicit instructions: task and thank only. I was not to ask questions, enter a pact, or thank him through ritual. Word only 'thanks'. Bune was very direct about this, and I paid attention because there are a million different claims about feeding, housing, pacts, etc. Shit gets muddy fast in the occult. Bune cut right through the noise for me.

The familiar’s energetic presence was much more intense than Bune’s. Almost too much at first. Upfront, in your face, enormous, direct, and action oriented. He did not like waiting around and did not want to talk. He had a purpose. He answered to me, but only for tasks.

The task took less than a week. And yes, it was 100% in line with Bune's listed specialty. The task was about a very large sum of money.

Looking back, I think Bune already knew the familiar would accomplish the task. What Bune was watching was me. Did I let it go to my head? Did I abuse the situation? Was I respectful? Did I treat the familiar like a tool, a servant, a novelty, or a being with a specific purpose and boundary? That felt like the real lesson.

As for Bune himself, I have encountered him pretty close to the Goetic description, but not perfectly. For me, Bune has been very background, airy, chill, brilliant, and masculine. He is not especially direct with me. His lessons are there if I want to learn, but his teaching style has been indirect and almost nonchalant. He watches more than he speaks, at least in my experience.

I do think any Goetic demon, or really any demon, can teach far beyond their listed “office.” But I also think we need those offices and specialties as contact points. The spirit can lean into that form for us because humans need something to hold. We need a way to approach, categorize, and relate. That does not mean the spirit is limited to the description.

Different teachers can also help because we tend to get too familiar or too comfortable with one presence, personality, or mode of teaching. Sometimes another teacher can reach places the first one does not. Or maybe we are more open in certain ways with other spirits.

Not sure if any of that helps, but that was my experience. I share it as personal experience only. Yours may differ wildly, or it may not.
