Preface : Okay I just want to clarify that I posted this on reddit 3 months ago but didn't really get any answers so I am posting it here as well :)

Hi there! I am new to Tarot, the Occult and esotericism in general.

I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I had a dream a few days back which I fortunately noted down.

The dream was me looking through a deck of Tarot cards and I decided to pull a card out. The card that I pulled out was called The Balance.

It had a green dragon that was balancing a Globe on its snout. The Globe was nothing special, just a sphere with continents on it. In the background, there was the Sun and the Moon on either side.

I then woke up and immediately note down what I could remember.

From what I've researched, there is no such card like the one I dreamt of. So what does it mean, if it even does?

Again, I am new to this stuff so I might be missing something crucial. What do you think?

*not much of tarot person but…

I’m between meetings so my 5 sec thoughts on where to start if you’re trying to dig into this from a tarot perspective:

Sun card
Moon card
Eight of Cups (only card I’m aware of that has both on it)

***Put those three together and it feels like it fits the very little I know about you.

The world card is a possibility but in this case I would think it simply signifies your world (you said it was simple - so don’t read too much into it).

Balancing something always makes me think of the Two Pentacles but that feels like maybe a bit of a stretch here.

Green Dragon strikes me as a new beginning/growth symbol here with some magic/myth thrown in.

I’m sure others could give you more…

Anytime my subconscience presents an image to me in a dream I research the symbolic aspects. Your dream has some levels to it.

The image. What does a dragon represent? If they don't represent balance, how do they maintain it? (This indicates an action you may need to take in your life.)

What does a globe or sphere represent?

What is the symbolic importance of a nose, on which the dragon balanced a globe?

Then there is the action, perhaps you can turn your research into action and produce the card out of your own mind, and explain (at least to yourself) what this card means, why it means it, and HOW it means it.

Also, sometimes dreams are just dreams. Sometimes they're just nonsense and not every one of them has a meaning (though I do think yours does.)

It is said that dreams are 1/60th prophecy. We have to figure out which part is prophetic and which part is bullshit.

In Chinese alchemy the color green represents the transition from metal to wood, or the sublimated spirit descending into material manifestation.

Transitioning back to western alchemy the dragon is a symbol of the guardian of the goal of the great work, the firey or demonic archetype that presents during the struggle towards immortality.

"The Hesperius dragon guards the entrance of the magic garden, and, without Heracles, Jason would not have tasted the delights of Colchis" - Porto Alchemica 1678

The globe is a symbol of Mundi, or Kosmos but in an immediate earthen sense. It is the totality of manifestation and in between Sun and Moon on either side which is a common symbol of CONIONCTIO (heirosgamos, the chymical wedding). The process of performing conionctio is one of the more veiled and difficult performances for the alchemist as it is an erotic union between Sun and Moon. The mideval Arabic alchemists such as Ibn Umail interpreted this as an erotic union between man's Soul and God which is also in line with the symbolism of Zosimos of Panopolis. 19th century occultists interpreted this into a sex magic context. You can see how this could be mistaken given the myths of Fulcanelli and Christian Rosenkreutz if you were to read them literally.

Conionctio may seem like a very simple action to explain but the reality of the process is highly mystic, moreso than Jungian psychology or 19th century occultism gives it credit for. It is somewhere in between having sex with God and erotically fusing your spirit (male) and soul (female)

Hope this helped.

Most contemporary models of dream analysis are based on Freud’s psychoanalytic approach. That is, where dreams are images thrown up by your subconscious which must be “translated” and mapped onto our waking experience. But as you will find, ask a broad enough group of people what this dream means and you will get such diverse interpretations that the meaning becomes more clouded, not less.

I’m of the opinion that as these images stem from our own minds, we already have the meanings of them available to us and only need gentle and persistent questioning to explore what these images mean personally, using reason, not interpretation.

It’s no good me saying “oh well a dragon represents blah blah blah” with authority, when you may have a strong image association for a dragon image already available to you.

What is important is recollecting the dream
In its entirety and in as much detail as possible. Also the dreamer’s emotional state in the dreams is crucial.

My advice to you is to draw, paint or otherwise visually express this dream, repeatedly if need be. Try to replicate the dream on paper and try to have the dream again. If you do, repeat the process, sketch the dream, add as much detail as possible to it. Ask questions such as

How many parts or stages are in the dream?
Who are the players and what are their roles?
What states of mind are in play during each event?
What exactly is occurring, and what is your reaction?
Are the events and your reactions reasonable?

Here’s what I want to know, or know how YOU know rather: how do you know it was a tarot pack and not just another deck of cards? What was your emotional response to the image on the card? Does the dream feel complete, or was this a snapshot taken from a larger dream sequence? If the dream feels significant to you, it is. If it doesn’t, maybe it isn’t so much.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you are a good artist, but I cannot emphasise enough the importance of trying to draw or paint the picture of the dream. This is then used as a reminder and mental jumping off point to focus on and try to replicate the dream experience. Meditate on the images.
