Hui-Ming Ching, Dao Te Ching, Hua Hu Ching, Daoist Internal Masetery by Wang, lol, Riding the Ox Home, and Master Dogen's Shobogenzo's, because Zen and Daoism go together like beer and whiskey.

Daoist Alchemy is coded just like Christian Alchemy because what they're trying to explain is too complicated and intuitive to describe. it'd be best to start with the basics of meditation for a few years before trying advanced work. You need to become familiar with your furnace and working the flames within you before you can "cook".

The things being expressed in these books, the Dao te Ching, Hua Hu Ching, Chuang Tzu, and Wen Tzu are lessons meant to be received like jokes, it's the thrill of realizing the punchline that makes them special in the practice, because these intuitive aha-moments stick, they're like less-dense Koans, moral puzzles you need to solve with your heart.

Each chapter in all of them is an unrelated story or poem, I could pick out some that had the deepest impact if you want, but I recommend just reading them if you're curious, they're very short, the Tao te Ching book is around 80 pages.

These books are also introductory, without attaining the foundational realizations, the vague metaphor language in the Daoist scriptures themselves would be unintelligible, because you wouldn't know what to experientially and intuitively link them to.

The Dao te Ching is personally my least favorite, it was written to talk common sense into the powerful corrupt nobility, though I will not dare say it doesn't deserve to be held up as a foundational text.

The Hua Hu Ching by Brian Walker is my most heavily bookmarked, it's a great bundle of lessons. An example:


"42) Nothing in the realm of thoughts or ideologies is absolute. Lean on one for long, and it collapses. Because of this, there is nothing more futile and frustrating than relying on the mind.

To arrive at the unshakable, you must befriend the Tao. To do this, quiet your thinking."

Each of them has their own merit... but 33 is worth writing down:

Those who know others are intelligent; those who understand themselves are enlightened. Those who can conquer others have force; those who can control themselves are mighty. Those who dare risk death have courage; but those who death cannot destroy are immortal.

To make a comrade of the Dao is to have the greatest ally you could imagine, to move in harmony with it, like floating down a stream, connects you with it and gives you the strength to alter the whole stream.
