Hello everyone! Has anyone Tried this?
These days i was reading some books, and i found cited, also by Sorita D'este Liminal rites, a line from Eusebius De Praeparatio Evangelica Book V Cap. XII (quoting Porphiry) about the possible image and statue of Hekate:
"My image purify, as I shall show:
Of wild rue form the frame, and deck it o'er
With lizards such as run about the house;
These mix with resin, myrrh, and frankincense,
Pound all together in the open air
Under the crescent moon, and add this vow.
'Then she set forth the vow, and showed how many lizards must be taken:
Take lizards many as my many forms,
And do all this with care. My spacious house
With branches of self-planted laurel form.
Then to my image offer many a prayer,
And in thy sleep thou shalt behold me nigh.
'And again in another place she described an image of herself of this same kind.' "
So from what i understood, you are supposed to make an image of Hecate from a Wild Rue root and anointing with a mix of frankincense, myrrh, already died lizards, and resin (possibly benzoine i think). Maybe if not anointing i think also making the statue hollow and filling it with ingredients could be possible also. Also you are sopposed to make a laurel wood shrine around the statue? Additionally it's vague here what type of prayer needs to be said.
The same line is written in the Chaldean Oracles translation by Majercik in the Doubtful Fragments 224*.
On Sorita D'este is quoted From The book of Witches a possible prayer after that part of the ritual is done and here it's also suggested to anoint the statue and not filling it in an hollow chamber with the above stated mixture.
I was courious of producing an historically accurate statue of Hekate this way, if anyone have already tried this and have some Insites on the procedure. Any insight about the construction of the Rue statue and the Laurel shrine and most importantly the prayer needed for consacration ? Maybe taking ispiration from PGM spells... from what i understood the making of a Symbola of the goddess, is a key step in the chaldean Oracles.
Also for me it could be a better understanding if the text since english is my second language, maybe i misunderstood something. I wanted to try the whole procedure and ritual and. Thank you very much and sorry for the long read!
