Some groups use board games as a form of augury. The O9A has its Star Game, the Caballeros Tyrodhal de Argentina allegedly used the figures in a Nativity Scene plus a disguised board underneath in the same way. There's the chess game in Bergman's 7th Seal. Woody Allen had a great send up of that using gin rummy in one of his short stories. Some folks find esoteric aspects in the Chinese 围棋(Go) Anyone ever used a board game that way?

The hermetic order of the golden dawn had a game called enochian chess. It had to do with astrological forces and essentially seeing how things would manifest under specific arrangements and forces and such.

Not really a board game, and also haven't actually done this yet, but I was thinking some time ago about mikado and how the sticks could represent planets / zodiac signs or whatever. It would be a kind of "throwing the bones" or maybe rune staves: let the sticks fall and see which one is on top, which one is free, which ones are obstructed by which other ones etc.

There's an archived thread on here that explains how to use dice got divination too.
