Assuming spirit guides starts with building rapport. Regular conjuration, conversation with them, action and offerings helps you establish this. Some spirits do not like humans, some will not like you in particular, while others will be more ambivalent. A few will immediately like you and that can be for a few different reasons, sometimes it has to do with astrological factors, your habits or character, or unclear reincarnation history. Spirits in general do have knowledge, guidance, and advice that is useful, supernatural, and beyond your scope; however they are spirits and just like humans do have a limited scope. You will know certain things that they are unaware of or don't understand and you won't be able to get correct guidance or advice from them in things that are not within their office.
As you move forward in establishing experience and rapport with a multiplicity of spirits you will develop a type of network or entourage of spirits that you can call on, listen to, and follow through certain situations. It is up to you to discern which ones you trust and are applicable to whatever situation you are seeking guidance in.
Demons in particular have a very focused and limited scope that has to deal with their office. They are excellent at making things happen and happen quickly. However they are pretty notorious for their propensity to feed people false information, sometimes I am unsure if they are even aware that they are saying something that is incorrect, this could be a result of their proximity to the material realm. There are a few demons that specialize in teaching people magic, art, philosophy, and science. If it is within their office and you establish a good relationship with them you can call on them very simply for help in their area of expertise.
As for personal guidance people tend to lean on their HGA/Personal Daemon as that one's area of expertise is specifically within the realm of your life and life plan. Clashes with this entity don't result from misinformation but mostly that it's inhuman and may not be too cooperative in guiding you towards something it deems not for you. (eg. Guide me to getting revenge on my ex. "Thats not the plan so no")
If you're looking for larger scope guidance in general thats where diety steps as it has a more comprehensive perspective but it will guide you towards integrating with the world at large as it has higher order concerns.

You might confuse the terms and indeed the terms are a bit confusing because daemons and demons don't define the same entities.
Demons might refer to what you define as malicious thought forms or devlish entities, tricksters and such.
Daemons are referring to forms of consciousness which in fact act like teachers.
Within christianity framework, authorities, especially the monks, priests and other servants of Christian God, named, depicted and conducted research (grimoires, magical scripts, other books and forms of knowledge) about daemons and referred to them not as (necessarily) malicious intent but rather than "oddly looking" .... in the past if a child was born with some visible malformations were called demons and their faith was not a pretty one, therefore daemons are a type of "guides, teachers and scholars" with option to act maleficent or not.
I do have experience with such entities but it is not what the wikipedia is defining but all sorts of consciousness from other dimensions, other realms, other realities which can cross or project themselves or a part of themselves into our reality or our awareness.
Such a collective consciousness is Tuhunukat representative of Neptune’s Stargate energy but because of interaction with Earth frequency it had to shift its energy a bit via Saturn gate so we can access this collective.
The group includes guardians and teachers, scholars.
This is their seal. I use it in meditative state
