Does magick mess with free will?

Got to this thinking after seeing a lot of people asking for love spells. Or really anything messing with the actions of others.

I thought magick was just about changing the likelihood of whether something will happen. Now I'm not sure.

I guess no one really knows what free will is.

I thought of also discussing the ethics of whether messing with free will is a good thing. I don't know the answer, in my head I get conflicting feelings. Seems more justified if the other person is harming other people, and less justified if it's just for love or something.

Honestly after using magic off and on for the past few months it seems only now that I've come to feel conflicted on it. Not going to throw out all the magick stuff or anything, just feels like I have to reconsider what I ask for.

The issue with free will is that everyone has it, and as a result people will always be infringing on other people's free will. You might not even notice it but free will is a bit of a lie because we are reactionary creatures, only responding to internal and external stimuli. If someone throws a ball at you, you'll try to dodge it instinctively, same as if something like a door opens as you walk past or bicycle crashes right in front of you. If someone puts a plate of food in front of you and invites you to eat it, did you really willingly choose to eat it or did you just react without thinking?

Free will is strange in that you always will simultaneously have it and lack it. You have the free will to make choices, but you will almost always react to stimuli in a predictable way. You could always choose to take the radical choice and throw yourself off the narrow mountain pass that's blocked by a fallen boulder, or you will turn back and find another trail.

When are we not really messing with free will of others? Our very presence changes the place. Can this influence be for good? Sure. We don't know about all influence we do. The best we can do is trying to do good and to have a good intent, even if it means sometimes to do something not so good.

It can be quite annoying when people are trying to win love of certain person, but they do and that also is trying to raise chance of thing happening, is it not? Surely better spell than one for breaking couples you disapprove of. The world is not simple, there are not things that are only good or only bad.

It is good to feel conflicted, it helps us to rethink our ideas and improve them...

Free will is best described as 'could I have chosen otherwise?' and much of the time, yes you can. All outcomes already exist, and you have the option of being the person who experiences a certain set of them, commensurate with your decisions.

I feel that I may have inflicted love mostly as a circumstance of trying to obtain something physical, but I have no idea whether that's true or not... But I also am very attached to him now, and I feel like I've scared him off by accident.

I somewhat understand this now. It's not a matter of "deserving" something, but emulating the power of something that I would have never thought of before.

You can't NOT mess with free will. Everything you say or do influences another person's choices. The only way you can not influence people is by not being around them.

But the key word is influence. As in to say that you have a hand in changing someone's mind, but they're responsible for their decisions.
