Reading Christopher's "Kabbalah, Magic, and the Great Work of Self-Transformation" on diversions to ritual:
'I recommend you start a list of your own diversions as they come up. They usually go something like this:
"I just don't have enough time."
"I'll just read one more chapter."
"The house must be clean first."
"This other project is more important, because it is part of my career."
"I might receive an important phone call."
"I must never do ritual when I am sick."
"I am tired. And it would be healthier to rest."
"I must wait until I am calm and Serene."

What other popular excuses have you heard from your students?

(That is, that do not conflict with reality to the student)

If the reality is true, that a ritual must be delayed then it's not am excuse.
That would not excuse poor time management though.

“I don’t have all of the materials” is one I’ve heard often. If the ritual is a time sensitive manner, grab whatever you do have or find substitutions. It’s a good time for learning additional correspondences. This doesn’t apply all the time though. Certain rituals require every single material listed.
