Hi everyone,
I have been practicing different kinds of magick for many years now. Mostly Chaos magick I guess or post-post-modern magick is probably the closest to what I have been doing for more than a decade.
I started being 'very lucky' and doing things deciding they were a mean for me to achieve something else very early in life (around 10 for the ones I remember).
Just making like assortments of plants or building a structure in the garden and somehow knowing it would mean I would be fine for the next exam. I was ten.
I like Lon Milo Duquette's and Alan Chapman's writing and read most of the mainstream books available for both. If you have anything else to recommend I'm down.
Based in a country where there are (to my knowledge) no active orders or community of western magician and where it is probably better not search for any online.
Very much a city dweller currently, pretty 'empty-handed', into petitions and sigils, mantra especially written mantras, and more creative rituals for specific purposes.
Happy to be here and get to know more and discuss results

Welcome! Sounds very much like the way I do things :)

I always recommend Alan Chapman's 'Advanced Magick for Beginners' so glad to see you've read it already :D

The other book I recommend is Stanislavski's 'An Actor Prepares'. Although this is about method acting, I found reading it from a magical point of view blew my mind.

Hi :)
Yes I had read quite a few books (and skimmed through many more) before finally ending up with 'Advanced Magick for Beginner's' and it was like a shock to me. Basically the vision of magick I had ended up with but worded simply and clearly, neatly organized in a book. Love that one. Unsure about the cover though.
I will have a look at 'an actor prepares'. To be honest sometimes I find non-magick magical material more beneficial than a lot of the magick-focused material quite often. My personal favorite "not magick but def magick" is Alphablocks.
There is everything in some of the episodes, 'S3E1: Wish' is just a complete introduction to magick but other episodes are also magick rich. Highly recommend even for adults

Thank you !
It's nice to be here, I actually have never ever exchange about magick with anyone before. Glad to be here.

Yeah, I'm a big DuQuette fan too. Haven't read Chapman. Learning magic is in the doing, not the reading as you obviously already know. Although I must say that the recommendation of the Stanislavsky book is interesting, I must look into it. I met my Adept mentor in a theatre workshop.

Yeah Duquette just helped me understand that it was OK to like not follow a set system or tradition or to adapt it to your own circumstances.
Not sure if it was in "My Life with the Spirits" or in "Ask Babalon" or maybe in both but yeah that helped a lot and then I realize that what I had been doing was also magick even though I was not chanting God names or wearing a robe when doing it...
His style of writing is just so good.

Welcome to the forum!

I read LMD's book "Enochian Vision Magic" a few years ago. It was a good read, and he had a very lucid way of explaining complicated material.

That is a bit worrisome. Stay safe.

Thanks for the concerns, I think it's mostly a matter of managing public opinion and social stability.
My perception of it (and that may be a cope) is that private activity when lead by a single person are pretty much fine as long as no illegal material or action are involved (which my case we're clear on that side). Obviously I do not partake in any kind of chemical enhanced gnosis, sometimes caffeine but that's legal and socially acceptable here.
I keep to myself offline. Most of my practice is just reading, doing some movements and managing my thoughts and emotions, which are all lawful activities.
If anyone has any experience with practice in similar context feel free to share what you can and want.

Where I am at the materialistic culture makes it so that there is no 'identity crime' or 'thought crime'.
I always check if the things I enchant for have a lawful mean of manifestation (but I mostly enchant for simple things like better focus, motivation to perform better and get a raise for example, things of that order).
So overall I think I am safe because I am in no way threatening anyone's interest, public safety, or social stability. Just a dude visualising having a nice meal after getting a salary raise and reading books in private, sometimes waving his hands at home.

Same, it's pretty good I think.
