To start off, my herbal medicine post is being a massive pain in my ass. It's worth it to try to spread what I know, especially since there seems to be a lack of posted information on herbalism here, but I just want to complain for a moment. My brain just doesn't want to cooperate, and I do not want to provide half-assed work to this community by any means. All of you deserve far better than that. So, yeah, that'll have to wait until tomorrow to be finished (or maybe the next day, if things don't go as planned).

Onto another topic, I've been getting really interested in practicing Nei Gong, and other Daoist practices. I really want to worship Húxiān niángniáng, specifically, but I'm not currently in a situation where I can do the sincerity rite properly. Additionally I was having issues trying to combine the school of thought I already subscribed to on the Rose and Thorn Path with Daoist thought processes (and the worshipping of a deity in a rather rigid context), but they overlap quite nicely if I don't put them in neat little boxes like my human brain desires to. Nothing in reality is neat or pretty when catagorized, and I need to keep that in mind.

Since I'm so interested in Chinese practices, I'm also going to devote some of my time to learning Mandarin. I got off to a rather shaky start (with my local library not having a single book on it, so I studied a different language I'm learning instead lol), but I'd like to give myself the ability to read important Daoist texts first-hand. Additionally, while fox cults that worship Húxiān seem to be pretty prevalent in China, there doesn't seem to be much information readily avalible in English.

I'll have to start making an effort to devote a portion of my time to introductory Nei Gong, and once I start progressing, I'll probably start making informational posts about it. Additionally, I'll have more to say about the Rose and Thorn Path once I get my hands on a rose bush and some chlorophil, so I can actually start the spirit side of herbalism. Meh. I'll be able to do that once I move into my apartment in July. I just need to be patient and study theoreticals, and the processes and rituals I'll be doing when I can do the practical side.

IDK if I'm at the risk of going off topic, but I was doubting this claim, and tried to search on the Kindle store, and couldn't really find any books on the topic. Even googling mainly yielded fictional wikis etc. So I just thought I'd ask Gippity about it, and holy shit, chatGPT is literally sending me back to WF (lmfao)

This is crazy, and I feel like I owe you and @Xingtian for this. If you guys find any kindle books on the topic that you'd like, let me know (DM on discord or PM) after making a book request and I'll cop the PDFs for y'all.

What's the issue with that? Not allowed to burn incense at home?

Yeah-- I'm living with my parents currently and I'm moving back to Florida in July. So it's a combination of my parents not liking it when I burn incense and the fact that we always drive down to Florida, so I'd have around three or four days where I'd be unable to offer the incense. Due to both of those, I figured it would be easier to just start when I'm in my own place.

It really is crazy how few resources there are! And thank you so much for the offer-- I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything

I'm in the same boat. Now that I have some cash, think I will buy a few vials of oil, like Rose and Frankincense.
That way I can take a cleansing bath, annoint myself with oil and get into ritual. Even during invoking and annointing myself as a form of ritual.
That or collect corresponding plants and store them in my ritual space.

@ghoulish well, can't say that I have much resources in my situation either.

I wish you good luck on your practice though, and from what you provided so far in your posts, it seems like you are researching something interesting.

Keep up the good work!

I had actually started translating it for myself before his book came out, there were some bits he omitted (they're not really relevant to his purpose so I don't fault him for that). Anyway I'll put them here, maybe they'll be of interest. My Chinese skills are still pretty amateurish so, while I'm confident I got the overall gist right, there are probably mistakes here and there.

The Fox Immortal’s True Scripture of Enlightenment

Immortals and gods met atop Kunlun mountain;
the assembly of immortals and gods emitted the dharani:
“The golden gleaming 10,000 fathom wonder-cloud appears;
In the midst of White Jade Pond a curious lotus grows.”
The gold immortal of Yuntai, draped in white hair,
holding a command-tablet demon-slaying sword,
her hair held with a golden pin atop a cap,
feet treading merrily on a gloaming cloud,
prostrated like the full moon
to the realized and excellent ranks before her.
The multitude stared at one another and looked on
and then the fox spirit explained to the immortals in the palace:
“In ancient times, at first, the fox immortals were divine;
they descended to the mortal world to protect the Heavenly Masters.
On a moonlit night they rode upon a cloud to the horizon,
observing the good and evil of the world’s people.
One spirit from the beginning abhorred peace,
freedom, thusness, joy, and heaven.
and grew in knowledge of obstructing passions.
The five yin and six thieves were entangled,
each striving toward delusions,
satisfying willful fantasies and neglecting the heart.
For ministers did not serve lord and country,
for children were unfilial and grandchildren unvirtuous,
so as to not honor teachers or value the Dao.
The ten thousand evil entangling calamities lay heavy.
Because avarice extended to fraud, strife, and murder,
they fell into the three paths that don’t reach heaven,
therefore endlessly reincarnating,
so dismal as to consider bitterness sweet.
Having sinned one’s entire life,
enormities avenge one another, sufferings sharpen each other,
now leaning on power to abuse the helpless,
in a blink returning oneself to fall into evil streams,
unaware how each day hastens a person’s age,
coveting and grasping for needless excess.
The road of the Yellow Springs has no speck of wealth;
good and evil follow one, returning to their origin.
A cup of yellow earth, a lonely, silent tomb,
only now regretting what before was avidly pursued!
The gifted scholar and the beauty eventually turn old.
The Dream of Yellow Millet confirms the above.
Having disregarded ten thousand calamities before,
carefully contemplate one’s true destiny-
at root all beings are one substance,
all should see and realize emptiness.”
The white-haired one gently trembled in declaring the wonderful truth.
All the heavenly family and divine kings,
the gold immortals of the eight grottoes, lining the Jade Hall,
together raised the fist-in-palm salute on hearing the verses,
delighting boundlessly to faithfully receive the scripture.
Lady Fox Immortal explained the words of her chapter,
exhorting the myriad beings to neither kill nor harm.
“Heaven and earth are one soul, sharing the same movements and changes.
The path of the age-enduring cosmos is continuous-
Worldly people do not grasp its origin in nothingness,
day and night toiling in confusion and bitterness,
finally reaching the common end.
Form and emptiness join to ruin well-laid plans.
Convert to the path of the Great Dao, the mysterious wind,
striving to the utmost in deeds of mercy and courage.
There’s a path to the Dharma Gate; the cause of immortality is near;
Heavenly and human realms are both attainable.
If all sentient beings can realize this,
liberation, joy, self-harmony shall blend.
Consider no speck of dust a trifling evil-
a single thought returns one to the midst of Hell.
The greatest always grasp the law of non-duality,
unbound and unfettered from the nets of life.
One Dream of Yellow Millet is a thousand years of sleep.
Pierce through lifelong fantasy and enter Truth.
The dark gate shows the road to immortality;
the Taste of Dao clarifying true and false has a root.
Magic power is inexhaustible.
From the heart transform the five phases.
It's easy to understand original realization,
flying straight up to the city of immortals.”
May all beings alike come to enlightenment!
Forever be a single-minded disciple of the Fox Immortal.

The Fox Fairy’s Inner Elixir Scripture

The three treasures of the human body
are called jing, qi, and shen;
accord with true form and abide there.
Refine the po and nurture the hun.
Though the body be weary, it is the root of the great Dao.
Leave darkness and enter the valley.
Keep the dantian warm at night, the sea of qi tepid.
Falling dragon, crouching tiger.
Renounce folly and cut off anger.
Fill the fire trigram, guard the water trigram.
The great time is ever new.
The deep heart quenches desire.
Sweep clean the fleeting clouds.
Golden elixir refines the jade.
Strive with the self. Yellow sprout, white cloud.
Eagerly nurture the realm.
Retain youth, delay age, so as to lengthen springtime.
Guard jing and shen within, with subtle innocence.
All this fulfilled, so become an immortal spirit,
departing from the sea of anguish,
utterly transcending the maze.

Fox Fairy Life-Release Spell (this is mimicking a Buddhist practice of releasing captive animals into the wild)

Some friends may be found in the human realm;
Heaven, earth, and the myriad beings are good friends.
Today in praise of the fairy fox, we bid you farewell,
releasing all beings, utterly free,
reaching the mountains and crossing into their depths
meeting the waters, swimming and diving deep!
Ride the wind over misty peaks;,
roaming carefree, east, west, north, and south:
In the mountains let a hundred birds make their thousand calls;
May you cultivate well in the depths of rivers and seas.
May mountain and earth gods come to your aid
That on the road you hardly meet with humankind.

The road of the Yellow Springs has no speck of wealth;
good and evil follow one, returning to their origin.
There’s a path to the Dharma Gate; the cause of immortality is near;
The dark gate shows the road to immortality;
the Taste of Dao clarifying true and false has a root.

The three treasures of the human body
are called jing, qi, and shen;
accord with true form and abide there.

Some friends may be found in the human realm;
In the mountains let a hundred birds make their thousand calls;
May you cultivate well in the depths of rivers and seas.
May mountain and earth gods come to your aid
That on the road you hardly meet with humankind.
Wow, great work!
