Hello Everyone,
You can call me Ancient. My interest in the occult began as a teenager when my father started a leisurely New Age spiritual practice and brought home a few books of Kryon channelings. I found these ideas to be a breath of fresh air after being raised in a community that still clung tightly to strict interpretations of the Christian faith, and quickly found myself doing my own research into various ideas, including Buddhism, Satanism, shamanic and mentalist practices. At that age I put most of my energy into lucid dreaming and meditation, as I was able to see results immediately rather than just reading theory.
As I grew older these interests waned, and I found myself living a mundane life for the next decade, with far more of an interest in science and atheism than the occult. While some of my friends and family had shocking stories of the paranormal, I had no definitive experiences to rest my faith on, and so disregarded these for the most part.
Earlier this year I started researching quantum mechanics - just a little light reading for fun on my lunch breaks, y’know? Well, that re-opened the door to these phenomena for me. Suddenly science doesn’t explain everything away; perhaps the key to how entities or layers of reality can exist is able to be found in dark matter, or black holes, or any of the theoretically suspected particles we have yet to physically discover.
This was followed up by a well-timed mention of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn on a TV show. My interest was piqued, and my research changed directions. I discovered a wonderful mode of thinking known as Chaos Magick, and this has been the subject giving me the most momentum. Most of my practices will have this mindset at the core.
I am currently waiting for my copy of Peter Carroll’s Liber Null & Psychonaut to arrive at the local bookstore, and in the meantime I am doing some reading on astral projection, witchcraft, shamanism and tarot. When I remember to I practice energy work, trying to become more aware of the ethereal parts of myself and thereby set the stage for some astral adventures. Could use a little more discipline, but the habit is building slowly nonetheless. I’ve set up a little sacred space for myself in my basement, and I am putting together a set of magical tools - so far I have everything I want but a wand, although I have selected a nice willow branch to whittle down when I find the time. Perhaps I’ll set aside an hour for myself this weekend and get that done.
I tracked this site down at my wife’s urging. I told her my enthusiasm for the subject was fizzling out without like-minded individuals to discuss it with, and she suggested I find a forum. So here I am, making my first post online in close to ten years. My goal here is to broaden the scope of my research, learn some techniques for practice, and stay active on the site as a way to keep motivated and interested.
I look forward to meeting all of you involved in this community.
