They are, there should be a little envelope icon at the top right hand corner of your screen. If not some of us have emails on our profiles.

As well as if you hover your cursor over someone's username there should be an option to start a convo

You must make 20 posts to start a DM and 5 posts to reply to one! Sorry for the confusion, I’ll make a thread and add this info to welcome message.

No problem, my fault for not making it clear. Might need to bring those requirements down a bit if people are finding it too restrictive. If you feel that way please make a thread in the suggestions section.
