Hi there, new to the forum. I've been interested in magic and the occult since childhood (I'm now in my mid-30s), but my interest has been mostly (but not entirely) academic; as it happens I am an academic, although my work has nothing to do with the occult. Sometimes I worry that my conditioning as a humanities scholar gets in the way of my feeling for / desire to practice magically (although, of course, I know that there are a great many people who are both academics and practitioners; this is just my own personal foible!), and very gradually, I have been moving towards determining what my own magical path might be. I figured joining a friendly community would be helpful :)
all best!

What branch of academics? I spent a few years at the game and one of the two deepest regrets of my life is what I taught during those years. (Rawls', "Theory of Justice," if anyone's curious.) I can see how humanities training might hinder magickal work. But, having recognized it as a hindrance, it could also offer an obstacle for your Will and mental control to work out on. Kind of like a mental Nautilus machine.
