How to Reward ANY Spirit

Note: This is an essay from my Yahoo Groups. I posted it there first and now am putting it up as a freebie on my site. Enjoy! Moloch

Okay I'm posting this HERE first and before any other schmuck claims they brought this out, I figure I'll put it in writing on this date and you people are my proof.
There are a multitude of ways to reward Spirits and we've discussed these methods on here as well as other lists. Some of these methods have been somewhat difficult to work with while many others are rather simple.

Here is a simple candle method you can use to reward ANY Spirit with be they Gheude (re: the Dead), grimoiric (either infernal or celestial) or as an offering to one of the Orisha or LWA.

A simple votive candle is used. The preferred color is 'purple' HOWEVER if a purple candle is not immediately available (and you've actually gone out and tried to find one) then a 'white' votive candle is used.

This does NOT mean you can use a pillar, tealight, household, mini, 7 day, or any other size/shape candle - only a votive and the color MUST be either purple (they prefer it) or white - not green, lavendar, blue, yellow or any other color other than purple or white.

The candle MUST also be "unscented". Yes yes yes I hear the groans now. The friggin candle companies and their adding scents to candles is sickening for Occulitsts BUT if you use either color, the candle must be unscented. (Got that?)
The oil to dress the candle with is "Mint". Do not use anything else other than Mint scented oil on the candle. If you can afford and obtain essential oil of Mint (Spearmint) NOT Peppermint, then get some and take some grape seed oil (or other GOOD non-rancid turning base oil) and add enough drops of the Mint essential oil until it has a strong Spearmint flavor. Shake well and let it sit in the dark for a few days.

Now for those of you who will begin much wailing and gnashing of your teeth all because you 'cannot find' essential oil of Spearmint, then here is a simple solution for you: Go to your local grocery store and buy some fresh spearmint leaves. Look in the produce section. IF they do not offer it, ASK the produce manager to order some in for you. How much? A small bunch. It should not cost very much for this.

Take the mint home and put it into your trusty mortar and pestle and bruise it up. (No need to go overboard with it - just bruise it.) Then take it and pour this into a simple Mason Jar (or some other type of clean jar - even a used but clean mayonaise jar works) and then pour the base oil over the minto to just cover it. Leave it steep like this for at least 7-10 days. Strain out the oil from the mint leaves and pour into a bottle(s).

Now you have an acceptable reward oil for offering to the Spirits for work performed.

What I do is to take a thorn - you can use a rose thorn but I prefer a thorn from a hawthorn tree as they are longer and easier to work with - and then engrave the Spirit's name onto the side of the votive candle. Anoint the candle with the oil. Now, rather than argue with any of you about HOW this is done, just use your best judgment because it's not a working candle but rather an offering candle and the Spirits don't care about it being dressed in any particular fashion other than the candle being coated with mint oil.

Further (this should go without saying but I realize there are a LOT of folks who are literalists) take the candle and place it inside a fire safe container - be it some sort of glass holder or in a metal container such as a cast iron cauldron. Lite the candle and call out to the Spirit in question and tell them to partake of this offering. This is done so that no other Spirit comes along and just starts siphoning off the candle's energy when it's meant for the one you named.

Simple. Easy. Concise. No worrying about trying to find a botanica or flakey new age store - just a simple make-it-in-your-own-home offeratory oil and procedure to follow.

You can use this with any Spirit and it will be well received. They really do LOVE Spearmint. I have yet to find ANY Spirit, anywhere, that disliked spearmint as an offering.

Now again, before the wailing and teeth gnashing begins, do NOT ask to substitute Peppermint or some Occult blend of oil that has Spearmint in it becuase that's NOT what is presented and it won't be well received. Just use Spearmint only. It's not terribly expensive and readily available and a little goes a long way. Plus if you get it on your hands, it smells nice. If this is something you have to keep private/secret from others, you won't raise any eyebrows with the mint scent on you.

I will soon put this up on my website and into my other groups but it is time that I shared this technique with the world as I do it.

Use and enjoy!
