Mantras for Healing the Six Sense Faculties
In Buddhist psychology, the “Six Faculties” refer to the six sense bases through which we experience the world:- Eye (seeing)
- Ear (hearing)
- Nose (smelling)
- Tongue (taste and speech)
- Body (physical sensation)
- Mind (thoughts and emotions)
These practices are devotional and contemplative in nature. They are not a substitute for medical care, but are meant to support healing and inner balance.
1. Eye Faculty – Vision
Visualize Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva radiating gentle light within your eyes.Mantra:
Om Qin Xi Za Ye Svaha
嗡 沁嘻 杂耶 梭哈
Traditionally said to help reduce eye discomfort and purify visual perception.
2. Ear Faculty – Hearing
Visualize Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva present within your ears, clearing inner and outer noise.Mantra:
Zhang A Ga Bei Ya Svaha
张 阿 噶贝呀 梭哈
Traditionally recited for ear pain and disturbances in hearing.
3. Nose Faculty – Smell
Visualize Guanyin Bodhisattva within the nasal passage, bringing clarity and calm.Mantra:
Sha Ha Hum Bei Ma Ba Da Ma Svaha
啥 哈吽 贝玛拔大嘛 梭哈
Used traditionally to ease nasal discomfort.
4. Tongue Faculty – Taste & Speech
Visualize Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva resting upon the tongue, blessing speech and the mouth.Mantra:
Zeng Gu Ru Ba Ni Sha Svaha
增 固如 巴尼啥 梭哈
Traditionally said to help relieve mouth-related ailments.
5. Body Faculty – Physical Sensation
Visualize Sarvanīvaraṇaviṣkambhin Bodhisattva pervading the whole body with light.Mantra:
Ti Lin Sa Rang Ba Ya Svaha
悌林 萨让 拔呀 梭哈
Used traditionally to reduce bodily pain and discomfort.
6. Mind Faculty – Thoughts & Emotions
Visualize Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva seated in the heart-mind, radiating wisdom and clarity.Mantra:
Meng Xi Ri A Rang Ga Ya Svaha
蒙 悉日 阿让噶呀 娑哈
Traditionally recited to ease mental suffering, anxiety, and emotional distress.
How to Practice
- Sit comfortably with a straight spine.
- Relax the breath.
- Gently visualize the Bodhisattva associated with the faculty you wish to support.
- Recite the mantra slowly, either aloud or silently, 21 or 108 times.
- Conclude by resting quietly for a few moments.
