Paranormal writer Meredith Spearman is pretty great, and she really gets it.

Her stack is very new but quickly exploding in popularity quickly. A big reason for this, I feel, is because her exploration makes the universe bigger, and the Phenomenon bigger, and does not try to lock it down into some cramped, pet world-vision.

What she draws upon is close enough to the Western cannon of Hermeticism and Neoplatonism to not trigger my revulsion reflex. Some of her favorite researchers and writers are some of mine: Patrick Harpur, Jeffrey Kripal. And she uses some of my favorite descriptive words, like "Daimonic" and "The Imaginal."

Where we differ is what we DO with it. She is not a magician, and I have some quibble here and there, but I don't hold that against her.

Anyway, I don't "do" aliens, but if we accept the more inclusive idea that the entities are bigger than the stories and MMORPG background lore we tell about them, it changes things.

Call them demons, daimons, ETs, pagan gods, entities, or even "Eldritch Beings from the Primal Darkness" as I do (kidding) , we can listen to the better UFO/UAP/Paranormal writers out there without accepting the daimons are literally little green men from Mars, any more than they are literally pagan gods, or literally demonic hellspawn (as much as the last one is way less cringe ). And maybe a bit of all of the above, depending on what we bring to the table, or circle.

She's cool. Not perfect, yet, but very cool.

I’ve mentioned Sheldrake’s morphic resonance here as a decent conceptual tool (model) to describe how all those stuffy old rituals, prayers, and invocations acquire over time their own "channel" through the universe. Western Magic itself, the grimoires, are very much a morphic resonance field. Well several fields.

Others not using them may have to ramp up their drugs and BDSM beatings to get an effect. Kidding kidding, but that never stopped some folks (seriously, kick the habit, and upgrade your dopamine receptors again).

More, If we include the ET-contacting CE5 protocols as ritual magic, as she suggests it is, I am sure they flavor the experience of the participants as well.

"Biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s theory of morphic resonance offers a framework for understanding how repeated practices might create fields that make subsequent experiences more likely. Sheldrake proposes that systems inherit memory through resonance across time, not just through genetic or material transmission. The first time a new chemical compound crystallizes, it takes longer; subsequent crystallizations happen faster, as if the universe has "learned" the pattern."

Much of it is not her best article becasue she is trying to grapple with Western Magic, a field that still has a deep technical and historical aspect she has no experience in , and appears to rely on AI to help her navigate.

Not all attempts at modernizing nomenclature are useful. It's not a secret I'm not a fan of the hand-wavy term "egregore," and feel it greatly range-limits the type of experience you will have to the worst versions of them. Deny agency, creativity, and personhood to the Others, and the universe overall, and you will experience none of it.

Instead, the much better term might be "mask," or the older Catholic term "office." Both work better here and let the Phenomenon to happen in bigger space. The word "daimon" also contains the ideas of liminal Otherness that is very useful for making the universe bigger again. We can make "egregore" more useful for us if we restrict how we think of it as referring only to the temporary "mask" - meaning here the astral costume the intelligence or spirit uses to communicate with us. The mask lets us perceive and interact with the being, but does not express all that they are. See? Fixed it.
