Paul Foster Case and the Cube of Space idea

Paul Foster Case seemed to come up with the idea of the cube, which has height and depth, length and width etc. To each of these axis lines is attributed to a particular Major Tarot key, corners are attributed to a Major as well.

My questions - how did PFC come up with this, and is there an earlier source on this idea?

So far, google results have been PFC 100% on this idea. All google seems to infer not only is he the sole owner of the idea, but it came to him after deep study and meditation.

Maybe by studying the Sepher Yetzirah? It suggests the form of a cube, when you form the 'above', 'below', 'forward', 'backward', 'left' and 'right' as a square. You can also read about it in the 'Chicken Qabalah' from Lon Milo DuQuette.
