Alright my fellows from BALG and the random wanderer, I'm leaving as you may or may not know, so here's that tutorial I promised you all.
Premise
A mage is incredibly likely to use spirits over the course of his arcane journey. Spirits can be powerful mentors, friends, guards, and companions. Most sorcerers get into magic for one reason or another, most likely to financially stabilize themselves, heal someone, attract a lover, etc- all material things.
Spirits also are the strongest, most powerful game a hunter can kill.
This post is designed to teach you just that: how to become a predator of predators, conquer kings, and drink of the blood of spirits powerful enough to kill a lesser mage.
This post is of my path- the path in which the sorcerer may gain all of the power a spirit has to offer by killing that spirit.
Shall we begin?
Things I will assume if you are serious about following this path
1. You understand that Karma does not affect you in the slightest. Remove all regret and attachment to it as it will only make you weak.
2. You know how to project.
3. You've cursed/killed/hurt somebody with magic.
4. You are willing to throw everything you have at an enemy.
5. You have a fortified dwelling capable of depatternizing or repelling enemy spirits without your interference.
Why would you do this to a spirit?
Because, like all things, they are food. In the words of a poster on BALG, "reverse the flow"- no matter how holy you are, no matter howmany spirits you've summoned or think are on your side you are still food.
Reverse the flow.
Only the strong survive, and to become strong you must rise in the food chain. Now, I'm not saying backstab your allies, but what I am saying is that you must be remorseless. Your enemy will most likely not stop until you are dead, so you must not stop either.
You don't "learn" power, all humans have power. You become more skilled in it. Magic, like most things, is a learned skill and you can only become better.
Battling, conquering, and eating a spirit is like trying to lift 50 pounds in one hand when you're only used to doing 20. It hurts, and may defeat you, but the reward is well worth it and it will empower you far faster.
How do I start?
That's easy. You should be intimate with your limits- what you know you can and cannot handle in an occult battle. The regular magician should be able to take on a group of a few wandering spirits rather easily. A King Ifrit might kill said magician rather easily. So it's all about knowing what you can and cannot do and work your way up.
Second, armaments. Your shields- you know how to make shields, don't you?- should be strengthened 24/7. I recommend a thoughtform to keep them healthy and charged. That way if the thoughtform goes down you know something's up.
WEAPONS are fun. Aside from energy balls and other types of direct magic spells, has anyone here looked into Omnimancy? They've a unique way about them, and their magic is like none that I can think of. I'm not giving away ALL my secrets because I know there's a chance someone who's looking to attack me will be reading this, but look at their forums and you can build a pretty neat weapon yourself.
Third, spirits. You got any allies? Call on them in the beginning. Let them do most of the work for you.
The Procedure
Note: If anyone has a question on masking intent, PM me, because I will NOT hand that out freely.
1) Check your armaments. Make sure everything is nice and healthy.
2) Call on your allies. Amass them.
3) Mask intent.
4) Project.
5) Find a target. You can will your subconscious towards a target you know you can handle or ask your spirits.
6) Attack- whether using your spirit friends or your own weapons and spells, beat that spirit to the ground.
7) Now, amongst the dust of the spirit there will most likely be a glowing little sphere (or at least, that's how I see it). That is the enemy's soul.
8) Feed off of/ shove the soul into your mouth. Eat the whole thing, and let it astrally digest.
9) You did it.
When will I see changes? What should I be looking for?
You may notice a lot of things:
1) You have more energy day-to-day.
2) You are healthier, more focused and happier.
3) You dream of bloodletting and wars, of kingdom and of monsterhood.
4) Your spells may work much quicker and much more efficiently.
5) You will be able to handle bigger, more powerful spirits.
6) People may react to you differently. They may gravitate towards you or away from you.
7) You'll find yourself needing spirit allies less and less.
8) You know more things and visions will sometimes pop into your head with no cause.
9) You will feel/think more things related to the occult- whether sensations, thoughts, dreams, or more.
10) You will be more attuned to energy, able to manipulate it far easier.
11) You may see certain occult abilities you were trying to develop progress far faster.
12) You may see flashes of spirits from the corner of your eye. You can usually tell if they are hostile, neutral, or friendly.
How should I prepare for a hunt?
Aside from the methods stated above? Well, there are some enchantments/chargings you can place that will make you stronger in preparation for a hunt. Here are some:
1) Do you live in your place of birth? Probably not. Vampires at the very least gain a dose of power the closer they are to their place of birth. Transfer the energy of your place of birth into a talisman you will carry on your person. It would be preferable if this is sealed with a sigil of yourself. You will most likely notice a power upgrade.
2) Water is so useful. I can accredit a quarter of my success- maybe more- to charging water. Transfer your intent into the water, chill it and then drink it. It is preferred that there be no ice, because IME that actually dilutes the power a little. You can literally make yourself stronger by grabbing a drink.
3) I know you shielded yourself, but what about your family? They probably leave the house without you, and they most likely cannot magically defend themselves. Any shields you can generate on them should most definitely be done, or a general "family" shield with a power source inside your house.
Afterword
That's my method of success, at least. I've had 100% success rates with this method and it works brilliantly. That's all I have to say, really. So...
The End
