1) Animals are subjected to cruelty in most situations

2) Most arable land is used to feed billions of animals. It is a massive waste of resources
Transportation of meat requires excessive energy
grass grown livestock is not land inefficient

3) Despite what the industry says, over fishing is happening

4) The wouldn't eat a dog defense (Chickens are my favorite animal)

5) the inherent sanctity of all life. Animals are our babies!
Chickens have brains and are more intelligent than people like to think (lol i love chickens)

6) dairy industry subsidizes the meat industry

There are healthy, tasty, delicious alternatives. If you don't have the money, try plant/vegetables. I love curry!

7) the Gods/Goddesses who intrinsically disapprove of eating meat. Especially the Goddesses who harmonize with nature.

For the health of the planet, please consider veganism, if not,

  • eat ethically sourced meat/eggs
  • eat cruelty free products
  • eat less meat
-be pescetarian
and more beneficially
-be a vegetarian

People say oh it is horrible! then they don't anything to stop it
You will adapt, you will feel better.

That's not true.

Historically offerings of meat were a luxurious thing to most of deities. Freya, Hecate and Persephone love offerings of pigs.

Blood sacrifice is also the powerful form of magick. There's a reason why many folk healers still sacrifice and kill animals themselves, the blood from the animal is the most vital power you can find.

I know veganism is the way to go to save the planet. But let's not rewrite history or fanfic how the spirit world works.

Apart from veganism being a way to remedy the karmic effects of a negative influence from Saturn in astrology, veganism is recommended for people who are doing the 40 day practice for spirit communion.
**Shani (Saturn) encourages a vegan diet with no alcohol.

That's about it as far as deities that I'm aware of.

However, from an occult theory perspective...
Meat contains what is called "animal soul", which is basically the source of the baser instincts of man.
Things like lust and anger...
The fiery passions as a whole.

And even though it may be advisable for most of us to not increase the baser instincts, I would argue that when the practitioner is disciplined, you can perform greater feats of magic by harnessing that energy.
Because there are certain procedures, such as those associated with fascination of desired persons, that make use of the practitioner's ability to utilise the animal soul flowing through the blood.

Actually, if everyone was vegan, there would be way less cows, pigs, and chickens because nobody is going to spend money to raise them. They would basically become extinct.
As for saving the planet, grass fed beef, pasture raised chickens and hogs actually help sequester carbon back into the soil unlike the animal feedlots(CAFO-Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation) which are shameful and huge wastes or resources. They are able to operate at a profit only through government subsidies and once those are removed they would go out of business or have to raise their prices so high that nobody could afford their products.
So I buy local grass-fed beef and pasture raised chickens and eggs as well as hogs. The animals are humanely treated(I've visited some of the farms) and they only have one bad day. I drink 2 gallons of RAW grass fed dairy cow's milk every week. Unfortunately this kind of food is expensive here in the USA but as a single man making decent money I can afford it.
As far as the spiritual aspect goes, I tried going meatless for 3 months back in the 90's and couldn't tell any difference in my practices. While I think that many people eat too much meat, vegetable proteins are not as easily assimilated by the human body as meat is. If we were meant to be vegetarians, we would have all molar teeth and eyes on the side of our head. lol
While chickens do indeed have brains, they are definitely one of the stupider animals. I've raised chickens for years and they would not win any personality contests although they are neat to watch as they forage and establish their pecking order. I recently bought 40 acres of rural land and will soon be raising most of my own food and can quit eating the chemical laden food that is offered by the big companies.

This is complex.

Ancient societies ate meat far less frequently than we do and it was usually reserved for festivals. Unlike, say, McDonalds, taking the life of an animal was approached as a serious thing, so serious in fact that the animal had to "consent" before it was killed. Once it was killed, it would feed a community throughout the festival and every part of the body would be used. The only part that couldn't be used for consumption, the bones and fat were, coincidentally, the parts the gods loved best and so they are the parts that would be burned as an offering. The pagan theologian Porphyry writes at length about the use of animals in theurgy and he argues that even this hyper-ethical community based consumption was not the preference of the gods who would rather have libations of wine poured to them than animal sacrifice.

The image of sacrifice that is part of the popular idea of magic today is miles from this and has more in common with

(skip to 12:50 but it's not for the feint of heart) than the desires of the ancient gods.

I'd never consider changing a vegan's mind, because I don't see vegans actively being detrimental to the planet (yet) and I am perfectly happy for them to live their lives as they see fit (unless maybe they were my partner or a close loved one and I saw some negative impact to their life or our life together because of it).

That being said, here are the reasons I chose to not be vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian etc:
  1. I love the taste of most meats. Yes, I do love the taste of some vegetables too, but they don't substitute for meats. They taste good in their own way.
  2. I don't believe the propaganda that the meat industry is catastrophically bad for the planet. I mean I am sure there are certain practices that are bad, but I believe those can be addressed specifically, and I don't believe that vegetarianism is the only solution.
  3. I might eat a dog... not my dog... but if I was stuck in a room with just your dog for months... I would probably eat it. Unless dog tasted real bad or something.
  4. I don't really have the same empathy for animals as I do for humans. That doesn't mean I don't think farm cruelty, and needless violence against animals is good. Ofc that is bad. But I am not as affected by an animal dying to be food as I am by a human dying for any reason.
  5. I believe that eating meat is the optimal/easiest way to achieve a balanced diet and receive all important nutrients. Can they be obtained in other, plant based ways? Yes, probably. But it's not as straightforward.
  6. I personally (for health reasons mainly but also for ethical reasons) tend towards, free range, organic, cruelty-free etc etc produce (both meats and vegetables)

I have nothing against eating meat per se. I have a lot against---what to call it?---industrial farming of animals caged their whole lives. One solution, short of veganism, is to make meat a luxury item. Only free range animals can eaten. Enforcement of that is pretty clearly impossible. Another option is to implement one of Bill Gates' very few good ideas for socirty: reduce population by at least 95%. (Personally, I'm holding out for a planet with 88,888 people. But that's a matter of obscure aesthetics.) Fewer people need fewer animals. We can green out and barbecue at the same time. "We"? Sorry. I'd probably miss the cut. Ya'll can gree out &c&c.
