I'm posting this here cuz I know that shifting and animal totems can be found in many paths. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with shifting and animal totems? There are 3 types of shifting:

Psychological- becoming more mentally like an animal
Sensory- senses become more focused or dull. This isn't like your eye sight gets better or worse it's more you focus more on it or less that it feels heightened or dulled.
Phantom- where you feel limbs your body doesn't have like wings or claws. You also can feel smaller or larger then you actually are.

I was exposed to the terms shifting through the alterhuman community. I shift both voluntarily and involuntarily. Done so since I was a kid. Mostly to a cat. I worship a cat goddess and feel a cat is a primary totem of mine so I often try to embody those characteristics. I do use this skill a lot in the occult. I was curious if anyone here knows much about shifting and if they use that in their occult practices. And if they feel comfortable maybe giving me some advice on starting points to trying to look into incorporating things like shifting into occult practices. I'm looking for insight on things to look into and such to help with my own practice. Maybe like terminology to look into, names of practices that might be good to look up and such. I'm also open to people sharing some their experiences with shifting if they like however i know that's personal.

alterhuman community
Since when did "otherkin" changed nomenclature?

I think you should ditch places that talk about otherkin and rather focus on those that talk about shamanism, as the whole "man turning into an animal" is something that has existed in(and probably even orignated from) different shaman cultures around the world. You can start by reading some books about shamanism, maybe something there will "speak to you".

Can't get more into the roots of shapeshifting than by going to shamanism.

I never said otherkin. I said alterhuman. There's a lot of communities under that umbrella.

Shamanism makes sense I been looking into it.

I also think the alterhuman community is useful. Who says I need to learn from only one community or path?

Shamanism I have been learning a lot about and I am learning a lot about other practices as well.

I tried editing my last post software wouldn't let me but I misread your previous message. Alterhuman and otherkin are two different terms. Otherkin falls under the umbrella of alterhuman. Alterhuman is a much wider term.

You can learn from many paths and places, but the issue with "otherkin" communities is that they're mostly a gathering of people that believe to be non-human.
As in, they truly believe that their souls are non-human and that for some odd reason that means that they themselves aren't human. When they actually are still very much human.

Alterhuman and otherkin are two different terms
But imply something similar, the feeling of not being human or not considering oneself human as designed by society and common sense.

With therians, otherhearted folk, and otherkin people its a spiritual practice in many cases. Sometimes a psychological thing. There's many spiritual and mental health reasons someone might identify as otherkin or therian. Most dont believe they are physically nonhuman. They acknowledge they are human. It's a lot more complicated then first glance. Other/animalhearted is what I am. Similar experiences to the therian and otherkin community but identifying "with" as supposed to "as" a nonhuman animal.
