Hi everyone!

I'm running a novena (nine consecutive weekly sessions) with a Goetic Duke on Fridays during the hour of Venus, using the traditional Ars Goetia method combined with Dr. Rudd's system — meaning I work with the Duke's specific angelic counterpart from the Shem ha-Mephorash as governor and binding agent. The angel and spirit share the same number in their respective hierarchies, which is the core mechanic of Rudd's approach.

Setup: Full circle, triangle of manifestation, consecrated tools (dagger, wand, ring with divine names), the Duke's seal in copper placed in the triangle, the angelic lamen on my person. Incense, candle, the whole apparatus. I've also added two additional Shem angels for specific functions on the target (conversion and obstacle removal), so I'm running a triple angelic stack over a single Goetic spirit.

Method: I follow the standard progression: First Conjuration (x3), Second Conjuration (x2), the Constraint, Invocation of his King, and the Spirits' Chain. I've been progressively escalating pressure each session as per Ody's recommendations in the Magister Officiorum.

What happens: I get consistent confirmations through divination (tarot, both during and after sessions) that the spirit is present and engaged. The readings show clear progression week to week, early sessions showed structural resistance, middle sessions showed collapse of the target's defenses, recent sessions show the work crystallizing. But I get zero visible or physical manifestation, no temperature change, no candle movement, no audible response. I've asked directly for simple physical proof (extinguish a candle, make the room cold) and gotten nothing.

What I've done about it: Session 6 I ran the full Ody escalation up through the Spirits' Chain. I had his seal under my dagger for 7 days prior as formal notice with nightly verbal reminders, a full countdown. The Shem angel has been active as ligatio throughout. Divination after the session confirms he was present and heard. But still no visible manifestation.

Context on my approach to non-compliance: This isn't my first time dealing with spirits that underperform. I previously worked with planetary spirits (Martian genies + Saturnian intelligences) that fulfilled their task only partially and caused significant blowback on me. My response was to formally sentence them, take my own consecrated dagger and pentacle, hike up a volcano, dig a hole in volcanic earth, and bury the spirits' seals along with my own tools as a sacrifice to seal the sentence. They're still there. I didn't retrieve my tools. That's the kind of operator I am, I follow through on what I declare.

The Duke knows this. I've already formally warned him during the novena that if he doesn't fulfill his charge by the end of the nine sessions, I will execute a full curse on a Tuesday of my choosing, in the hour of Mars, with the full Martian arsenal , and he won't know which Tuesday until the dagger hits the fire. This isn't an empty threat and he knows it from the precedent I just described. The novena structure gives him until Session 9 to produce results; after that, it's a Mars-day execution without further warning.

My questions for experienced practitioners:

  1. For those who've worked extensively with Goetic spirits, is it common to get consistent divination confirmation of presence without any physical manifestation across multiple sessions? At what point did visible manifestation start occurring for you in your practice?
  2. I'm considering dedicating Session 8 to invoking the Duke's King directly (not as part of the escalation sequence, but as a standalone invocation) to ask the King himself what's blocking the Duke's visible appearance. Has anyone here done this — invoked the King separately to discuss a subordinate spirit's performance? Any advice on protocol for that?
  3. The Book of Oberon notes this particular Duke is "very false in his answers unless well constrained." For those familiar with this spirit: did you find the constraint had to reach a specific threshold before he cooperated, or was it more about the operator's development?

I'm not looking for "maybe it's not working" — the divination is too consistent and progressive for that. Something IS happening, but the visible manifestation piece is missing. I want to understand why and how to bridge that gap.

Any insights from your own experience appreciated.

Here is something to consider that’s from a very different lane than what you’re doing, so take or leave as you see fit.

You’ve clearly got the ceremonial side dialed in, Rudd stack, triangle, constraints, escalation, all of it. From where I’m sitting, the missing piece in your write-up isn’t another layer of pressure, it’s your own state as the sensor in the room.

You’re getting consistent divs that Paimon is present and working. In my experience that’s already “manifestation,” it’s just not happening in the channel you’re expecting (candles, temperature, theatrics).

A couple questions that might be worth asking yourself:

At any point in the rite, do you slip into hypnagogic drift?
Are you getting any shift in inner perception, pressure in the head, body sensation, mental “voice,” emotional move, or is it flat?
Have you had what you’d personally call a successful, felt evocation before (Goetic or otherwise), and if so, what did that actually feel like for you?

I don’t work your system. I don’t use a circle or triangle at all. I meditate, align, drop into hypnagogic trance and call. Sometimes I get visual, but honestly that’s not always a guarantee. Sometimes its just felt presence/pressure, “downloads”, inner dialogue, or just a very obvious shift in the texture of the room.

For me, the strength of the contact has tracked my internal state way more than the complexity of the set-up. If I’m fried, distracted, or haven't really dropped in, nothing “visible” happens even if the spirit is there and doing its thing.

On the incense/resin side: since you’re already running a formal rite, I’d lean hard on real resins as tools for your nervous system, not just as offerings.

Frankincense especially is underrated in magical discussions and overrated as “that church smell.” It reliably pushes the brain toward calm/alert/ inward-turned awareness, non-ordinary perception without intoxication which is probably why it survived in temple and liturgical settings where loss of control was a no-go.

But details matter: Too much: headache, agitation, you get the opposite of what you want. Cheap stick incense: mostly fragrance and filler, almost no real effect. Right amount (Pea size) of real resin on a proper coal: subtle but very noticeable shift in how “deep” you can sit and notice.

If your divination keeps saying “he’s here, he’s working” and the only missing piece is that you don’t see the theatrical manifestation, I wouldn’t be so quick to jump to “non-compliance” and Mars-day execution. It may simply be that your primary channel right now isn’t visual/physical, and the work is happening anyway.

Maybe tweaking your state (trance + resins + expectation of inner manifestation) will bridge that gap more than another notch on the constraint dial.

Hope that helps. Take what resonates, bun the rest. Good luck!
