[Archive] [SteampunkScientist] the Adept Magickian: in 2 Parts

A thread that was copied from the original Wizard Forums.
I have gained much from the forum, and it is time to give back. Here is something from my own practice that did not quite fit into TGK's thread "What have your results in magic been"

So... here goes my methodology of constant meditative ground practice.

Part 1: Ultimate Focus.

A true Magickian who wishes to be an adept, must learn to perform his meditation practice in any situation, regardless of what that situation may be. It is quite useless to be able to create an intimidation shield, or produce energy balls for defensive purposes if the only place you can do this is in your dark, quiet temple. What about the dirty, noisy street on a Friday night after the club lets out and there is a group of unsavory types looking you and your date over?

Sure, the quiet dark temple space you created when you first learned to meditate and control energy was the perfect womb like place to develop your skills. Unfortunately that is hardly the place you will need these skills much of the time. Can you still focus on your aura when your favorite music is on the radio? How about when someone is jack-hammering the sidewalk outside? Or when you are in a cramped airplane and unable to get into your favorite “Lotus” position?

You must learn to be the temple, wherever you are, no matter the situation, or the obvious distractions.

How do you do this? Well, you could take certain martial arts with a teacher who also gives lessons on meditative and energy practice. Another way, that does not potentially cost thousands of dollars and hours of your life, would be the following…

First the only way to learn to do something right is to do it. You will most likely do it badly. That is okay – that is what practice is for.

There are tips to learning to focus on building you aura and mediation that can help; the most important is having a focal point. For me, I use my talisman – an amber and jet necklace with a near perfect amethyst point. I also use a pocket wand, and speaking of wands in general, let me quote Franz Bardon:

“The most important aid in ritual magic is, and always will be, the magic wand” –Franz Bardon.

You may not agree with Mr. Bardon on that, and for this tutorial that is okay. Here is a link to a free PDF (as of this writing) of Mr. Bardon’s “The Magic Wand”

What the focal point does is “ground” you to a state of mind that allows you to get into your meditative state quickly. These physical objects should be cleansed, consecrated, and charged with your energy in your “Quiet Temple”, and then used every time you go into your meditative state – held in your hand if a wand, or on your neck if a talisman necklace, etc. (cleansing, consecrating, and charging these objects is out of scope of this tutorial, refer to tons of useful info on the forum for those things). We shall call this a “Grounding Talisman” for want of a better word.

1.) Use whatever relaxation method and breathing technique works for you.
2.) Energize each of your chakra’s, cleanse your aura and form your meditative circle or “personal energy area”
3.) Focus on the idea that this process is embodied by your grounding talisman, transferring an embodiment of each step into it.
4.) Practice using your grounding talisman to get immediately (or as quickly as possible) into your meditative state.

Once you have done this enough, you will be able to touch or think about your grounding talisman and immediately have your meditative state ready. Eventually, you will not even need the physical object – just a thought about the object, how it feels in your hand, how it smells, tastes, looks, sounds, its energies, etc. will be enough.

The final state is that you will not even need to use this method, but that regardless of the situation, you will be able to get into the meditative state – and perhaps even be able to stay in that state indefinitely, which brings us to Part 2…

Part 2: Splitting your Mind.

The next part of this tutorial makes sense only when you have mastered part 1. When you can get into your meditative state, or stay in it at will, you then need to be able to appear as a normal human being to those outside, and you will need to be able to still use all of your other faculties.

You do this by being able to split your mind – keeping one part in the constant meditative state, while maintaining a conscious “normal” mind. You should be able to carry on an intimate conversation with someone while at the same time being able to raise and use energy via your meditative state. In fact, you should be able to perform such things as hypnosis or NLP or any variety of human manipulation type processes with your “conscious” mind while your meditative mind performs other activities related or otherwise.

This can be difficult, but it is worth learning. Basically it involves being able to put your focus on one thing, and then shift to another. You do it all the time, for example, when driving your car. You are having a conversation with someone but you’re also driving a four thousand pound machine at seventy miles per hour down the road.

Instead of driving a car, you will be in your energy raising meditative state while at the same time having that conversation. Your metal focus may shift back and forth between the two states, but both states are going on simultaneously. Eventually this can become your normal waking state. Imagine being able to immediately fire an energy ball of healing or hurt, throw up a shield of protection, or cast a spell without any preparation. Or always be ready to receive a clairvoyant communication about an opportunity that is going to occur within the next few moments.

That is power. And it is power that you, as an adept, should have and should cultivate.
Again, you are going to go into your meditative ground state, and then do something. Like ride a bike, or have a conversation where you actually have to think about something – but do it while maintaining your grounded meditative state.

Next, after you mastered that, you need to actually raise energy, or form an energy ball, or servitor while still riding your bike or talking to someone on a complex topic.

Practice, practice, practice. This may seem hard, but will reap enormous rewards. If you keep at it you will be able to perform nearly any magickal working while maintaining your best meditative state which will allow you to perceive and act. You should be able to see the advantage of this in practically any situation from the most mundane, to the highest ritual/ceremonial magick.
