[Opinion] The misinterpretation of Azazel

I’m looking for more clear and concise information on Azazel as the different personalizations of what scholars believe they represent aludes me.

Any sources? (Besides the book of Enoch)

Is a misnomer in my not so humble opinion as there are many fallen/demons that we could “ascribe all sin to”. Why this specific rhetoric?

Read all about it in Leviticusl 16:8-10 if you set store by 'holy books' such as the bible, and you've found the Book of Enoch quote in Wikipedia yourself. There is "The Book of Azazel - Grimoire of the Damned" in our E.A. Koetting collection but personally, I think that angels (whether fallen or not) are sort of 'created' as soon as they are mentioned in popular books such as the bible or the Goetia and a certain amount of lore has accrued around them. This doesn't make them any less 'real', mind you, than when considered independent beings discovered by ancient sages, prophets, etc. You can observe this evolution of demonic lore in action in the demonolatry scene where all those sketchy Goetia descriptions of demons are 'fleshed out' by their devotees: This demon is difficult, that one is always ready to help with financial or romantic matters, etc. The 'origin story' doesn't matter that much. It's often claimed that this or that demon was actually a Sumerian fertility god or whatnot, but what happens if such god has been long forgotten and then makes a comeback, so to speak, as a demon in a Renaissance grimoire? Is it still a fertility god or has he changed after all these millenia?

Same with Jahwe who supposedly used to be a Canaanite storm god. Nice to know but does it matter? He sure as hell isn't considered a storm god by the Jews now, and his origin story has become completely buried under such a widely-read tome as the bible as well as tons of Kabbalistic books.

Come to think of it, you might see the biblical scapegoat custom as a forerunner of christ's crucifixion, so jesus would be the sacrificial goat and Azazel god the father who's so happy about his own son being brutally murdered that he magnanimously decided to forgive us our sins (I frankly never understood that story).

If Koetting (who was brought up a Mormon and certainly knows his bible) has succeeded in building some robust enough occult lore around that demon or whatever it is, you'll get Azazel the Unjustly Misunderstood, Azazel the Infernal Redeemer, etc. but from a scholarly point of view, there just isn't enough data for a serious assessment.

If that will help you, Agrippa makes parallel between Azazel and Amaymon in his Third Book of Occult Philosophy, Chapter XXIV:

"...and after the same manner amongst evil spirits, there are four which as most potent Kings are set over the rest, according to the four parts of the world, whose names are these, viz. Urieus, King of the East; Amaymon, King of the South; Paymon, King of the West; Egyn, King of the North, which the Hebrew Doctors perhaps call more rightly thus, Samael, Azazel, Azael, Mahazael under whom many other rule as princes of legions, and rulers; also there are innumerable Demons of private offices."

Also, in books of Agrippa, one of the Spirits of Saturn is named Zazel. A lot of practitioners consider Zazel to be Azazel (and even use Sigil of Zazel in attempt to interact with Azazel), but I don't agree with this view. Lack of initial letter "A" is a good sign that these are different Beings.

Azazel is an angel of witchcraft and linked to the 7th hierarchy. Those from you can confirm with Azazel himself, and he will agree with that information.
