Excerpts from Disco Elysium:
YOU - "At least you got your benefits, that's something"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "It's not enough. Not enough to get ahead. More about keepin' us in our place."
YOU - "How large a share would you like?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "All of it. However, right now we want all the harbor workers to be on the company's board, so they could take part in the desicion-making process."
YOU - "The bossman, Evrart, what can you tell me about him?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "I think it's best you make up your own mind, now that you've met him" He shrugs. 'In my eyes, he is a capable organizer and a decent businessman.'
YOU - "What does bossing the Union entail anyway?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "I guess you kinda get to be the village chief. He oversees the harbor, makes deals with the owners or other relevant parties. Watched out for his own."
KIM KITSURAGI - 'By that you mean corruption?'
CALL ME MAÑANA - "By Heavens, why would he not be corrupt? We live in a harsh and disordered world, see. And in this world... the old man is corrupt for our benefit and we know it. Appreciate it, even. He is, personally, not too lavish."
YOU - "You're right. He's very ascetic."
CALL ME MAÑANA - "Okay, he's reasonably lavish, sure. That's his prerogative. It's not like you want a saintly demeanor on a corrupt motherfucker. That would be a manipulative illusion. Besides, there are no non-corrupt systems in the world anyway. And moralism is the most corrupt of them all."
YOU - "Are you a... communist?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - "No," he pauses to think for a moment. "I don't think i am communist. Seeing something of value and saying 'I want it all to myself' is as much older and simpler notion. No science to it at all..."
Relevant to this, here's an story shared by John Paolucci in one of his ATWA stories:
"I defected from Communist Russia during the height of the cold war. I gave my oath to honor the American system. After many years I found that after all is said and done, political differences aren't all that significant. People following the conventional wisdom of the world get basically the same results, even when they identify themselves with different ways of organizing. Wholeness of awareness revealed this to the fullest extent. If a person doesn't do something about the fact that he is the sole creator of the universe; that his achievement comes from his own private conclusion inside, he's going to have to assign a political system power over him. He will either worship it, merely put up with it, or try to extricate himself from it. He will have to compromise his needs with the needs of the political body. There will always be a conflict of interest. If political systems are the only way people are aware they can coexist, there may seem a vast difference between one political system over another. But compared to living the results of acting in agreement with their own complete singular personage, all political systems are conventional bondage. "If I would have had this knowledge living in 70's Russia, I would have blended in comfortably. I wouldn't have been a troublemaker for the State, nor needed to revolt, nor have been a source of concern to bureaucrats seeking political power. I wouldn't have sustained proof of an enemy in my field of perception. I wouldn't have proved lack, loss, limitation, and obstruction there either. Seeming lack of resources wouldn't have discouraged me, but I'd just have gone right ahead with whatever was at hand to live my life. I would have been perfecting my own self-sufficiency to be supplied directly from the part of me unseen. If still standing in the long food lines, I would have used that experience to perfect the option of least effort (color page 16). If I were falsely accused of being an enemy of the State, I would have used that prison time as an opportunity to more deeply consider the mechanics of complete existence. I would have been at home there as any other country. Knowledge of something that underlies time-space, is retroactive. As I look back at my Russian experience, I have no regrets. It was the highest and best for me as right now" - ATWA Story 7 (Communism versus Democracy)
If you look deep into political factions, it's safe to say that they tend to tie up with your spiritual inclinations as well: As metaphysical assertions and your philosophical ones are one and the same thing. Alignment with higher truths and greater identity sense reorganize the aspects of experience in auto-completion upon Meaning that we tend to look as previous content with different meaning, as our perception of reality depend on our perspective.
With this in mind, it makes sense to oneself to get along with the people in alignment with our ways, and be loyal to that: "For the outsider it's a cult, for the insider it's a creed, a brotherhood, a place to grow, a place to know; a bunch of dreamers that became one everlasting power."
Although, everyone has their own reasons, even impersonal ones.
It's common that when one embrace something like solipsism, self preservation and personal ambition become the sole, highest priority there is. Even endeavors part of our own personal expression and life orientation become part of that (In one part lies the whole). The world is as you are, and everything across your mist accommodates to your own volition. Morality it's just a narrative, and as one goes to the lesser to the higher truth, one can escalate in self realization;
- As far as one can be concerned in the malleable nature of our personal realities, there are no heroes nor villians, only embodied ideas and ideals that clash between each other, or dance along the elysium.
- But as darkness is just the absence of light, going further on this: There are no villians, only heroes. We could say that everyone it's their own hero.
- BUT, there's only one individual that permeate every aspect of your fate, and that it's yourself. You are your own hero, the chosen one.
An hero is a man that know he's free - The Protomen
How did magic changed your perspective on political affairs? In my case, i could say that, i realized what was truly important all along...
CALL ME MAÑANA - "The Janitor gave it to me. Nice fella. We talked about life and things that really, trully matter." His gaze wanders off into the distance. 'None of this mess we're in. This jivin' and jugglin'... what's it for?" He doesn't wait for your answer. "To feed our children i guess."
YOU - "Anything else i should know about this task? This weasel person? When he'll be home?"
CALL ME MAÑANA - He shakes his head "I'm more of a philosophical dockworker. I like to talk about the big picture stuff. Who I am. Who you are. What we are fighting for..." The man takes a big sip from his flask
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] - Who he is and what they're fighting for? This is interesting.
WHO we are... that's what it is all about, i'd say.

PD: I left out an important part in one of Mañana dialogues in the edition. Here's the complete excerpt from the last bit.
CALL ME MAÑANA - "No," he pauses to think for a moment. "I don't think i am communist. Seeing something of value and saying 'I want it all to myself' is as much older and simpler notion. No science to it at all... Even a weak child can think it. The only things holding someone back are 'I can't' and 'I shouldn't'"
Structurally speaking, everything is possible. Every limitation is self imposed.
