What is an initiation? As far as I could find out, it's a touch into a current of (power??), an invitation to understand the mysteries of the current? But what is it more simply? What benefits and edges do I have once I am initiated?

Well, initiation means "start". So you (and the one who initiated you) believe that you are willing to start doing the stuff. As that is the start it is simply the first step and it is up to you to prove that you can keep on walking. I am not initiated into anything by anyone except by myself by the way.

In a lot of traditions, initiation comes with death & rebirth. This could be psychological, spiritual, or physical.

Some experiences can be so overwhelming, so paradigm-shattering that everything in the past feels like a distant dream and you've suddenly come crashing into a new, fantastic and brutal reality.

Formal initiation is just ritual, it's meant to induce an inner revelation and rebirth, done without spirit it's as meaningful as communion at church, just rote bullshit, a milestone box marked off on a checklist.

People report going through several initiations, with each deeper Gnostic revelation. In the Merlin tradition, initiation comes with looking directly into the "Eyes of the Dragon".

The "you" that gets the benefits and edges gets nothing, because that you is dead. Someone more alive, true, and powerful gets born.

Sometimes a non-physical entity may initiate you as well, not just a temple or Master.

Death of your oldself and being born into a new one. Is the actual meaning. Of turning corporeity into spirituality.

But in current year initiation means paying an entry fee or pledging allegiance to a grandmaster like the freemasons do. Perhaps doing a little candle ritual for aesthetics.

Initiation ideally means that from now on, you'll have the weight of an entire tradition behind you when you start on your new path as well as the blessings and support of its elders. It should be an empowerment, a solemn occasion marking a new beginning as well as a homecoming after years spent in the wilderness. And for better or worse, it will teach you all about the group of hopefully like-minded people you're about to join.

I understand as two things: a reborn and you have access on Powers that a non initiated would not get.
