If I did know of a grimoire that worked, why would I tell a random collection of strangers? I am not trolling here. I started to answer the question posed, then my daimon said wait a minnit, aersewipe. Since my remark is, strictly speaking, off topic. I'll start another thread. But this should be let stand, I think, because this thread does inadvertently raise an issue...

There is an interesting thread started lately about "Grimoires That Work." Therein I asked the question, when to reccomend a grimoire? Since that query is technically off-topic, I take that matter here. That is, assuming I have one or more grimoires that work, why should I tell a collection of total strangers? Possible ill-will, incompetence, incomprehension all offer reasons to keep one's cards close. True, thanks to the miracles of Internet and shameless piracy, just about everything is available to anyone. Still, why lay tracks that lead back to myself? Being a born paranoiac with a rigorous training by my paranoically gifted family, I never write what actual rites I use or powers I invoke. Though I sometimes serve red herring. I am probably not important enough to fek with, but why take chances?

So, what guides any of you in your reccomendations?

I posted this in General Occult since I reckon it is of interest outside the LHP, where the referenced thread is located.

That is actually a good question. I think that good advice would be speaking about what works for you, but not making any assumptions or guesses about how it will work for the person you'!re recommending to, especially if you don't know them too well. Tell them what the book is about, but let them decide if the book is for them.

And when to recommend? The best is to recommend when they ask, that is also when they will listen the most.
Also you don't have to recommend immediately, ask few question to see why the person asks and what experience they already have... and what kind of people they are.
