Thought about this this morning: If you can be what you want to be, I'll Bea Arthur (Dorothy from the Golden Girls..) But I could just as well be Willy from ALF.

Dorothy because I catch myself making the same frowning face daily, and honestly, I think her character is pretty close to mine.

Willy because of his looks and the frustrated semi-outbursts (daily occurrence here)

Which sitcom character do you see yourself as?

Judge Harry Stone from Night Court. Specifically because when a little kid asked him why the sky was blue, he answered that if it was green you wouldn't know where to stop mowing.

The only sitcoms I watched in any depth were Red Dwarf and Father Ted… so I guess that would be an ecumenical matter

Larry David

Like him I do not like being around people irl and partly because I can’t stop myself from calling them out on their BS which causes me lots of problems.

When it comes to magick: Steve Urkel
When it comes to work: Manuel in "Fawlty Towers."
This forum thinks I'm Archie Bunker

There's a film with Geoffrey Rush as the Marquis, which, although not a comedy, has funny moments.

Sitcoms are those shows with the studio/fake laughs, right?

Most of 'em have a laugh track, yes. Some need it more than others.

Now I'm picturing a sitcom set in the Château de Silling. How great would that be?
Didn't British TV have a short-lived sitcom, "Heil Honey, I'm Home" about the Fuehrer? I doubt a De Sade sitcom would get quite the pushback, but the Yank Bible Belt would be seething as soon as enough rubes had googled "Marquis de Sade." Or maybe not. Maybe significant numbers would start googling S&M porn and leave the show alone.

From reading your first message on-wards, I've always thought you to have a Hawkeye Pierce quality. Long before finding this thread.

If you mean sardonic, yes. As TB was to the Victorians, so irony to we post-moderns---our wasting disease. This is the only time in my life anyone ever mistook me for Alan Alda. Aphrodite knows, no wimmens much mistook me for Hawkeye.

My dad used to say I looked like Alan Alda and, because of The West Wing, I thought he meant much older Alan Alda and was baffled. Years later, I finally got around to watching M*A*S*H and kind of got what he meant. In terms of personality, I'm closer to Winchester.

Like Hawkeye, I suspect sardonica is your way of remaining conscious amidst the horror of our Kali Yuga-infected circumstances.

Actually in person I shout a lot. Sepp Dietrich without the squared-away wardrobe.

Not to dump on Alan Alda, but he lost me for all and forever when he chose of accept the role of Carl Chessman in some godawful made-for-TV movie.

No one ever says Beavis or Butthead. Cartman or Kenny either. Sad.
