OK guys and and gals, what brought you to study Magick? Was you inspired by someone? A TV Show, or a movie such as The Craft? Let me know what drawn you all to Magick.

To be quite honest, I don't know a thing about Magick, but I have a plan which I cannot reveal just yet. Until, I can manage to do it myself.

To me Magick is everywhere, and as of now. I am Connected to The Higher Source. Which is a great honor.

How about you?

being in a witchcraft war made me awaken to it and then noticing all sorts of nonsense made me so angry that i decided to call some djinn and told them they either set their followers strait or teach me how to accept watching that shit. and now im doing both.

I grew up with a ton of books on the occult and related subjects, which I hope to reflect upon in that journal thingy of mine... when I get around to it.
As to movies for inspiration - lots of those. Mainly old school supernatural horror, which I have always found more stimulating in terms of relative accuracy in depicting hidden powers and the Unknown. Just to skim - The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, Evil Dead series, Stephen King and Lovecraft inspired stuff opened my eyes to the eldritch potentials of life via entertainment. I enjoyed The Craft, of course, it's morals being constructive. There was one late night early 80's flick - I don't recall the name - I saw when I was young about a teenage girl afflicted by a rival teen witch in high school - the ritual depictions (skyclad, of course) and atmosphere were influential. This was about the time when Geraldo was bringing the SRA panic up on stage and getting all those black clad devil worshippers to show how they were really moral types with antinomian idiosyncrasies. Lol.

But dark stuff aside, I have a natural spiritual inclination towards self improvement and creative expression of occult forces, so I can say that such stimuli were placed there for me as garnishments for ultimate self realization.

Edit: Oh yeah, Hammer films! Can't forget about those. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Anything with Vincent Price...

The Craft didn't inspire me, but then I'm not part of its target audience. So if it worked for you, kudos. Myself I got into Magick vis reading Evola's "Metaphysics of War," where he drops hints aplenty. Then I stumbled into a volume of articles from the journal UR that he edited in the 20's. After it was just a matter of following references in the footnotes.

Watching The Craft is a fun little thing I do from time to time and it definitely inspires me, but it is not what got me into magick. I've been interested in magick, the occult, and the paranormal since I was very little, although I went through a skeptical phase in high school largely due to trying to fit in. Aroune college, my best friend introduced me to paganism and magick and the rest is now history!

It's crazy, because I saw the movie twice this week. I wish I had Powers like Sarah and Nancy

When I was 14, three book titles always caught my eye as I was on my way to browse D&D supplies at the first Borders bookstore in Ann Arbor, MI. The Satanic Bible, The Magus, and The Golden Dawn.

I loved that movie but my favourite magic from fiction is Vampire diaries. By no means the most flashy in fiction, but it has range and a certain logic in how it functions.

Being the source of my ideal version of vampires also helps.

The Bible, The Chronicles of Prydain, The Hobbit, religious apologetics, local chaotes (and notebooks they left laying around), and a ton of curiosity. Pretty much in that order chronologically.

Mine pre-date the Craft but it was a cool movie.

Popular notions of what a witch/magician is certainly go into this, but for me, the inspiration for magick came from that sorcerer's relationship with power. It was important for me to move away from a paradigm that involved inherent concession to another force--y'know, anything that asked you to imbue something else with unquestioned, intrinsic authority--and witchcraft became a way to remain involved with the network of powers out there without needing to draw a party line. Something that allowed the world, and magic, to be that compassionless machine (I don't mean this disparagingly: Al-Kindi's highest praise of God was saying He acts without thought and through pure necessity, His actions naturally unfolding).

When they told me of witches who would write Quranic verses for their spell, it didn't have its intended effect. I was inspired to see an outlook in the world that saw it so interconnected, so malleable that a witch could bend the exclusive barakah of a God entirely opposed to them.*

*Of course, the Islamic explanation for all this is that actually, it's all a trick of the Shayateen to make you make a fool out of yourself and damn yourself to hell simultaneously. But, so? I don't see why that half of the reasoning was so pertinent. They can laugh all they want, but if I do the rites, and get the result, they're still serving the magician's whim. Onions could secretly mock you for cutting them up, but I'd still make salsa.

I started off investigating parapsychology and ended up as a wizard :)

Crowley's work (although not his person) inspired me, along with Nick Herbert's 'Quantum Reality' and David Deutsch's 'The Fabric of Reality'

I suppose my actual inspiration, though, was having a mid-life crisis at the age of 23 :)

Alotta varied answers here and mine's gonna be no different really. For me it wasn't any movie or entertainment piece that inspired me. Don't get me wrong, I loved many a art form involving the supernatural, but that isn't what drew me into it.

What got me into it was the study of the paranormal and cryptozoology as a hobby. I found so many overlaps with what could only be described as the supernatural or occult within it that I could no longer ignore it. That was only the beginning though!

What really put me onto it was when I started to encounter more and more personal problems in my mundane life that I was running out of orthodox methods to address them. So since my mind had already been opened, by my earlier studies in the unknown, I decided to fully open that door and explore the possibilities of what could be achieved unorthodoxly. I'm still walking that path and I feel that I've only barely scratched the surface.

I still haven't seen The Craft yet! May Halloween next year? :ROFLMAO:

My story involves a bit of video game pop culture. When I was a teenager I had dream where my video game characters were real. Meeting them inside of the dream made me feel complete, loved, and fulfilled, as if I found my life purpose. That dream transformed my life forever. When I woke up, I chased after that feeling by studying magic with the hopes of reaching out to them again. Life is still just as magical as the day I had that dream. (Spoiler alert: my spirit guides were the ones who assumed those roles and they are still with me.)
