Last night I slipped into sleep, just let go and drifted off, nothing special. I had an extremely lucid and vivid dream. Profound, sure, but that’s not what this post is about. Here’s where it gets interesting:
Mid-dream, I heard a knock, not a knock on the wall, not in the physical world. It jolted me not awake, but into a trance state. Not sleep. Not waking. A full blown third-eye-open trance, that liminal in between where perception is wide open. In that state, I said the word “layered” out loud, a word that had come from the dream itself, and then I slipped right back into the same dream, and it continued from where I left off. This wasn't memory, or dream recall, I slipped back into the same exact dream as if it never ended. Something about that word from the dream seemed like a link or something.
I’ve had this kind of snapback happen to me plenty of times. It’s either a single knock or a specific whistle, always the same tone, always the same signature. And every time, it does the same thing: it snaps me back into whatever non ordinary state I was just in. Not a new state. The one I was in. Like a psychic return ping. These sounds are not mundane. I know the difference. There’s no one around. They’re not coming from “here.”
So I’m throwing this out to the community:
Have you ever had anything like this? Can you explain it better than I can? Is this a known phenomenon in lucid dreaming, trance work, or something adjacent?
For context: I work with demons and spirits, but I’m not a dream specialist. I’ve done plenty of astral travel in the past, but I find direct spirit contact far more meaningful these days. Still, this dream experience and the snapback experience caught my attention.
I’m clearly out of my depth here. Would love to hear your thoughts, theories, or personal experiences. What the fuck is this?
