Like comparing the god emperor in Warhammer, who has a physical body, and is a really really powerful psyker, or like the chaos gods, who are disembodied, and rely on daemons to act as manifestations?

I don't think that anyone has a definitive answer for that.

According to what I study Gods are Divine Archetypes, they live in Atziluth, in Atziluth there is no matter, they never had bodies, they are abstract beings, to put an example the 10 Sephiroth of the Qabbalistic Tree of Life are Divine Archetypes, they reside in Atziluth, when you see for example an image of a God like Osiris, Zeus, etc. that is a symbol that helps to connect with the Archetype, but is just a symbol humans created to connect.

the one wouldn't be "the one" if we could understand it as a really physical being.

it's just my personal opinion, but i do feel give it a body it's a downgrade for it, and a 90% downgrade that much

In the tradition I practice there is the Creator or also known as the Godhead the limitless source beyond all comprehension, existing before creation also known as Ain Soph, there was the void before Ain Soph and it is called Ain with a hidden or invisible potential from which the Universe will eventually manifest.

Yes it could vary a lot in different belief systems, i believe there's truth in nearly every one of them.
