Is anyone working with a self-designed system long-term?

By system I mean:
  • Your own rituals
  • Your own language and symbolism
  • Your own methodology

Essentially just working with magic outside of any tradition. Self-motivated means to your own ends.

I ask because I have discovered a novel way to communicate with a single, named spirit previously unknown to me. I discovered this by chance and have been communicating for two years for divination purposes. This is a self discovered method of Divination that dwarfs anything I have learned from countless books. It has a powerful quality, and I'd like to know if anyone is doing anything similar.

thanks

Yes.

Because I was raised a little more isolated than most I developed my own belief systems during that time.

I mainly talked to rocks and trees. It was mainly nature based. I even named a rock I called the rock big rocky. A very original name.

I would study the shadows of things and developed my own spirtualism. In the winter I would jounrey and stay by the snow. The silence there was so quiet nothing could be heard. It was deafening.

I learned that nature might always be there even when we are alone. I was not alone. I was with the grass. The grass did not judge. It simply was grass.

I made up legends for the local area. I told my friend of one called the lake cacoon. It was creature residing in one of the lakes that would come out at night and wander the earth. At first it was supposed to be a scary story but then it just was the lake cacoon.

Then for some reason when I was younger someone told me that there were people? Entities? That came out from below the ground at night. So I wanted to sleep as high as I could away from the ground.

I also venerated insects as a kid. I did not want to harm them. They were there. Some got on a nearby tree one time and were so numerous you could not see the bark. It was amazing.

The woods were also a staple sometimes I felt drawn towards it but never fully left. I climbed trees and got to understand the trees nearby me.

It was very nature based. I think I tried to make my own nature based holidays but got to distracted to fully go through with them.

Yes. I built my own system through practice, and it’s worked really well for me over the years. I have my own methodology that I stick to, and my rituals don’t use tools. I use that same methodology in the system I’ve built when I work with deities too. It makes the connections a lot simpler without doing anything elaborate, but it still works well and gives me clear lines of communication.

I wouldn’t say I have my own “language,” because I didn’t invent a whole language or anything. If you really do that, kudos to you. But for me, it’s pretty much universal when I’m contacting spirits or deities. And since I don’t use sigils at all, there isn’t really symbolism in my work either.

I learn through practice, so my system just works for me. I don’t share much about it because people tend to pull the “that won’t work” line anytime something is self built and not straight out of books. In my experience, if it stays stable over time and gives clear results, it’s absolutely valid as real work even if it doesn’t fit a known tradition.

Hi Pygmalion, I did. If you want to have insight in the symbolic language that 'holds' it together, it is in the journal section. It are long posts, so I won't post them over to this thread. That would make this thread unreadable. But here in the link they are and they provide a little background on the rituals I did. A few can be found here on WF, mostly in the Witchcraft sub of the forum. There is a lot builded around ally making and those connections with the landscape come back in some of the rituals, for instance in the genie-in-the-bottle method which is somewhere on WF. (If I am back from work, I will add it)

I almost never experienced that, and I shared a lot on this forum and years back a lot IRL. Not only on my local witchcraft, but also in working with sacred geometry, mirror magic and other things.

You’ve been here a lot longer than I have, and look around I’ve already been getting judged between my avatar and many things I’ve shared. I’ve only been here three weeks, and people are already questioning my knowledge, which feels absurd. Like people can’t be experienced before they joined a forum. And yeah, self built systems usually get looked down on. But it works for me, so I’m going to keep doing what I do.

Through changes over time it's developed into its own model of Immanent reality involving hyperdimensional gravity holding it all together. That has helped removed falsehoods like a transcendent god. New rituals involving celestial objects congruent with the observer to the natural world.
It's able to be adapted to any planet in any galaxy the observer might be on from reference points to celestial motion of planets, stars and galaxies.

It doesn't take place in a vacuum and has to still account for the experiences of others and any mistaken attributions to something such as a transcendent model.

The different fundamental understanding of reality and attributions naturally develop into different rituals.
The unicursal hexagram for example:

This is for the middle pillar with the attributions for the celestial equator with its celestial poles.

That one has attributions to the ecliptic and its celestial poles.

Communication with spirits involves living myth as observed in pop culture and media through its immediacy to the zeitgeist.
