Not really , that came through later redaction in Zoroastrianism . If you read the earliest Avesta ' good and bad ' are qualities of 'mind ' ; Mainyu - spenta mainyu or angra mainyu . Then Mainyu became 'spirits' , then it went into duality in deity ( which is rubbish , even in Zoroastrianism as its (earlier ) Mono deistic . They admit mainyu IS mind , but ..... blah blah blah
( 'justifications ' ) . When the earliest Avestas are read with this original interpretation , it comes off more like Buddhism, in that it can be seen as 'a science of the mind ' .
Of course good and bad was what was good for them and what was not . Way before that going right back it was about
Man as wild animal Vs Man as Social / tribal animal : hind brain VS fore brain ; Individual ' Id ' Vs ' Group ' etc . It is all relative but the original concept was about how and why one's mind can go 'bad ' ( selfish , anti social , disrupting the collective ) or good , supporting it . It's the essential of initiation ; learning what base things you need to give up to get the advantages of the specific group .
Prior to him ? Nah there was still 'evil ' anything from the invading Indo Europeans , through to the Australian Aboriginals , were just about any misfortune was due to evil spirits .
If anything Zoroaster was ... nope ! It is all in your MIND . But it still got changed back to '' the Devil made me do it ! ''
