Hi! I am so excited to have found a community that appears to be honestly focused on supporting, learning, and exploring! I've been looking for a long time for such a community, and honestly, just reading through the introduction threads, I feel like I've come home.

I'm not sure whether it's better to share too little or a little too much, but here goes...

I'm Lyssia, and I'm a witch... which is to say, that's the term I use simply because it's about as vague as I am about what I do/am, (though I also really like the reasons Aiden Wachter gives for "sorcerer", and occasionally use sorceress in that context as well). I'm not young; I grew up having fairly frequent encounters/experiences with spirits/gods, in an atheist family who eventually wandered into a kind of intellectual and social Christianity, and sent me to a Catholic school. At the time, Wicca was an in-thing, so I moved towards Christianity to try to explain what I was experiencing; I ended up marrying a born-again Christian who would have been much happier and lived a whole lot longer if he'd followed his obvious calling to study druidism and shamanism. Not being quite as traditionally Christian as my husband and in-laws, I dabbled in various kinds of practical magic, mostly Wiccan-based (though I didn't know that at the time), and studying everything about magic(k - if you prefer that spelling; I don't have preference either way, and will use whatever is preferred here), occultism, mythology, religion... anything I could get my hands on, while trying very hard and very futilely to reconcile Christianity with my growing relationship with the Horned Lord, and the spirits we found in most every place we lived. When my husband died, very young, about five years ago, I realized Christianity (especially the kind of Christianity practiced by the people around me at the time) and I had... irreconcilable differences, and I abandoned the Abrahamic religions completely (my husband had Jewish roots), and have been trying every path I can find or read about since, looking for the words for what I've been doing, and experimenting, to find out what I'm actually good at and and enjoy. When Covid started, it apparently gave the Horned Lord, who revealed himself as Lucifer, an opportunity for a series of initiatory experiences; in the wake of that, it became clear that it was time to widen out from private study and practice to learn from a community as well. I actually found this forum totally by "accident", researching Santa Muerte.

As far as interests go... I'm interested in everything! I love tarot, and have been studying and reading tarot since I was a teenager; I've recently branched out into runes and ogham. I have two elementary school children who "talk to fairies" (as they call it) so a lot of my practice is focused on folk magic and learning how to help them grow as witchlings, while still navigating the world safely... and, frankly, while still being "in the closet" to our extended family. Much of my personal interest and practice right now is exploring how to blend the modern with the traditional, particularly in working with spirits and demons. "Organized" doesn't really work for me; my relationship with Lucifer centers my work (and I am so very glad to see so many others here who also have a connection to him!), closely followed by Persephone, who has been an incredible part of my life since childhood.

Anyway, if anyone is still reading at the end of all of this... Thank you! I am so excited to have found you!

Welcome, thanks for the thorough introduction!

We don't mind either magic or magick here, even I use them interchangably.

Feel free to ask any questions, or post dicussion threads in the relevant sections! We'd also love it if you could share anything you know in written form in the Articles section. It may be obvious/mundane to you, but WizardForums has started from scratch, and as such, any content, even if just for beginners would surely be appreciated.

I'm curious as to what you mean when you say this though:
lived a whole lot longer if he'd followed his obvious calling to study druidism and shamanism
Of course, if you're not willing to discuss it, that's perfectly fine.

Why is Lucifer being nice to you? Maybe you could ask him why, too.
I've tried to ally with Baphomet, in the semi recent past.
But I don't consider Baph as Satan or Lucifer.
There is a lot of creatures that got clumped into the word 'devil'.
The original fallen angel has nothing to do with the infernal dragon,
for example. IMO at least.

SkullTraill: No, it's fine. In the end, my husband died of a stroke in his mid-thirties. To this day, I suspect the cause was more psychic, so to speak, than physical, mostly because even after an autopsy and an investigation by the life insurance company, no one ever found any kind of medical or physical explanation for a stroke that, medically, shouldn't have happened. My husband was one of those people who always felt a profound connection to the land he lived on, coupled with a lot of experiences that I suspected then and, after doing a lot more research later, found pretty neatly lined up with the kinds of experiences reported by people who find themselves driven to work with land and nature spirits. He himself was fascinated by druidism in particular, and recognized from the start that he didn't perceive or understand the world quite the way a lot of other people did. Unfortunately, he grew up with a fundamental Evangelist Christian family who told him that everything was feeling, experiencing, and drawn to was Evil with a capital E. He struggled with lifelong depression, battling what he felt he "should" be and what he felt he actually was; and it was made worse by the kind of gentle but unrelenting bad luck that he always felt meant he wasn't where he was supposed to be. I'm sure I'll never really know for sure, and even if I ever was told directly, I might or might not believe it, depending on my mood at the time, but I really do suspect that his stroke was something of a mercy for him; but also, had he been able to trust his intuition and believe and act as he really wanted to, it might not have happened at all. Though even if it had, he would have been so much happier in the time he did have.

Dannerz: I'm not sure I would say Lucifer is being nice to me, exactly; rather, the experience as a whole has been much more like someone I've had a relationship with for as long as I can remember who patiently bided his time for me to figure out... "my head from a hole in the ground" comes to mind, but with humor. Having finally reached a time and place where I was able to recognize him, he's taken full advantage of it to make up for lost time, so to speak, although I've hit a point where I'm not quite sure where we're going from here.

The question of how much gods who have been syncretized with each other are actually one being fascinates me, though. In some cases, it seems very obvious; Minerva and Athena, for instance, do not seem to be the same person at all to me. On the other hand, I've also had the sense, especially with Lucifer, that some "gods" (I'm not really sure, for that matter, where the line between god and spirit really is, which is a different fascinating topic entirely) have been called by certain names for so long that they don't especially care, even though the may not be the same person. In that sense, the Devil might be more a more accurate name than Lucifer; my impression is more akin to someone between the Satan described by Herbert Arthur Sloane, and the Horned God of traditional witchcraft. But as I said, that's something I'm still very much exploring.

Ahh, thanks for elaborating. I'm sorry to hear about your husband, especially with how young he was. Sounds like he was living a through a battle, as you said. In any case, I hope you find the answers you're looking for on here. Please make some threads if you have any questions to ask or ideas to share, and good luck!

Hello Lyssia and welcome!! First, I would like to pay respect and send my condolences to you and your husband's family. I want you to know that even though he's gone from this world is not the end for him. Now, he is being taught by The Universe as I call it, or He or She in many different forms and sizes, of what really goes on in the Spiritual world. I know because I am finally having experiences Out of the Body. Types I had two OBEs so far, and 4 Lucid Dreams. Let me tell you that it is amazing, and I just posted one of my experiences on Occult general discussion. But, enough about me. For sure this is about you so once again welcome!! I would love to know more about your Journeys with Witchcraft, and the Spirits you connect with (especially my wonderful Being who is Lucifer.) Please, don't give up on your husband he is out there, and I know he is watching. Many Blessings!! and I send you my greatest and good vibe. Take care!!
