Consistency of practice

I used to be very engaged and consistent in my practices--i intentionally took a break and then almost completely fell out of doing anything I used to. I needed a reset, so that's all fine but as I'm getting back into the work, I wondered about others' longest breaks (if any) and how it affected your path.

I had to take a break from it for about a year because things started getting too real and too intense.

It impacted my path in some interesting ways!
When I got into occultism, I was originally very interested in Ceremonial Magick and Tarot and all the things related to that, so when things started getting scary, those were the things I specifically avoided.

I did nothing related to the occult for a year, and then I started dabbling in witchcraft and energy work a bit. I learned some interesting skills working through some books, and became pretty decently skilled at Spirit Work in the process, I just gave it time and I gradually became better at it.

After a year of that, I started getting back into Ceremonial Magick and Tarot, and that has been very rewarding. I have a lot more basic skills to back me up now, and more experience in dealing with being ungrounded and dealing with unpleasant spirits.

I don't know if I'd call myself a Witch if I had never taken that break, but I'm also ultimately really happy that I can again practice what originally got me interested in the occult. So I guess overall it was a necessary detour that helped me find my path more clearly than before.

I judmst came back after a 3 year break. Life got a bit full and I needed to focus on other things. I think I also burnt myself out a bit. I just felt the pull to start practicing again and I was surprised how much muscle memory I have and pretty much continued where I left off after a month of solve et coagula. Practicing again really lifted a weight and I feel happier.

Well I started a lil new agey at first then after learning some more philosophies. I kinda went through an overthinking phase well that and a combination of life stuff so I wasn’t really processing info properly. So I toook a break though I did learn few magick etc stuff on the side but I wasn’t really actively applying so not like a massive break ( like I also did manifest some stuff consciously when life was pushing me a bit 😂😂) but I wasn’t like actively skill building or routining or any thing ( this lasted maybe about 3 years) it was more like only if I need it to survive vibes. But when I came back in I had more clarity and just went deeper and better and increased in self trust and discernment. And decided to go deeper on what aspects I liked in what practices (plus I did expose myself to more practices during my break but I wasn’t reading detailed books on em lol)

Funny, a similar thing happened to me where when I came bavk after I left off, I felt like I had more clarity and direction than before. And I feel like I've improved despite not doing anything.

I think consistency is the key to success but taking breaks is also very important. The best is to find a balance.

With that being said, I dislike taking breaks. The longest breaks I took were something like 7-10+ days, that was when things really screwed up for good. Usually I tried to replace one practice with another similar but less intense. One burnout took a few weeks.

There's also some mental programming. Routine, you get used to doing x daily and it becomes a natural part of your day. Once you get into the mode, you just keep going. Getting in the mode can be challenging, taking a while. Another thing is to enjoy the journey not the outcome. (y)

Yeah mine was a three year break, though, when I took a short break it kind of snowballed as life got in the way. I think I burnt myself out doing and expecting too much. Now I have a routine I can stick to with a clearer direction and more enjoyment.

Sometimes you just start going through the motions. Neural traces etc. Switching it up by taking time out often brings new insights and shifts as a lot of people keep doing what didn't work and, worse, adding onto it.

I used to get that when I played trumpet at school. I would always play well after the summer holidays despite hardly practicing

Right now, with magick, I'm learning and doing a few different things so my mind is constantly occupied

I've generally had a lot of success from the Arbatel, though. The most notable ones being Aratron years ago helping me towards a first class degree, and Och prompting the hospital to spot a missing fracture in my mum's leg in the specified time frame.
