Introduction

Hello,

I’m Jack, a long time armchair occultist hoping to finally delve into performing actual practices and rituals. I’ve had a long time interest in Solomonic and other High ceremonial magick, so that is what I will hopefully be engaging in.

Open to trying many things, and I am always accepting book recommendations. (Not sure how long it will take for me to get to any recommended books as I work in the Legal Field, but occasionally a manic bout hits me and I get through four to five in a week or two.)

In addition, I plan on making the occasional post about preparing for an upcoming ritual I will be attempting with 2 friends I would call “light skeptics”, as in, they do not believe in the occult, but they WANT to believe, and are open to trying a ritual to convince them.

I'm curious of what ritual you are planning on doing. you most definitely do not have to share, but since you are aspiring to jump into the practice instead of study of magic, I'm wondering what the goal is.

That is very fair, when I was in college I was going to attempt to begin practicing with my then roomates. When it came down to the brass tacks, and they actually saw the constructed ritual circle, candles, incense, and whole shebang they backed out. I did the goetic ritual by myself in an attempt to conjure Paimon. I never received any indication of a presence (I still did the license to depart and followed all of the protective procedures, never had any negative forces or incidences afterwards), and the actual operation I was attempting (getting accepted to my dream graduate school) was a failure.

After that wrinkle I spent a few years away from the occult, only to start returning to it as of late. I am hoping to attempt the Goetic ritual again, this time referencing Skinner’s translation. However, I am aware that Solomonic Goetia is not necessarily for beginners, and despite my years of reading about magick I am most definitely a beginner. If you have any recommendations for alternative rituals, or tips, I would be very grateful for your advice.

Upon re-reading I realize I have failed to tell you of the goal. My friend’s workplace is experiencing a series of layoffs, I was hoping to perform a ritual that either protects his current job, or helps open a path of financial security elsewhere in the case of him indeed losing his job. We have not landed on a specific spirit yet.

Spirit summoning is a pretty advanced practice.

let me ask you some basics, because summoning is fairly advanced in my system (which does not use the keys of Solomon). the lesser key and greater key go together. do you have any experience with the greater key?

additionally, think of the summoning like calling someone. do you have the power to charge the phone (the ritual), to dial the number (the sigil), and then to reach the actual other person (whatever you are summoning). otherwise, it will be difficult to call on anything to appear. if it can't hear you calling it won't come. and how often do you answer your phone when someone calls?

you answer when there is a pre-established relationship, or you have no choice. Personally, demons are not my thing, so I wouldn't recommend them, but there are plenty here who would.

Do you know the meanings of the names, tools, and symbols used in the rituals? using something that means nothing to you does very little if anything at all.

Although they can manifest on their own to the point where the untrained can see/hear them, that is not common as it takes a significant amount of effort/energy.

Also, demons rarely do things out of the goodness of their own hearts. How often do you work for free? Be cautious and avoid making any deals.

I know the meanings of them as far as a book and meditation can bring me. I know that there are deeper mysteries that become revealed or explained over time and actually working with them (whether that be the implements, spirits, or something else). Because of my lack of intimate experience I do attempt to compensate in other mechanisms.

For example I have a few potential dates set up in the future based on astrological timing, as well as various consecrations (I was raised catholic, and have a local priest who is willing to bless most things) for my implements before starting. In addition I’ll be placing a scrying mirror within the summoning triangle in order to make it easier to visualize phenomena.

I have no intention of making any deals, just compelling them through invocations of holy names.

The Greater key is the more advanced one, at least from what I have gathered, it is stated to be difficult to work with the higher spirits, and to make the pentacles there are many many steps involved. (From making tools by hand, to consecrating every single thing before actually putting the implements together, and doing every consecration according to a different astrological time).

What are your thoughts?
