[Help] Beginning (Mexican) Catholic Folk Magick

Hello!

I recently took a trip to Mexico in an extremely Catholic area, and while doing my daily meditations, I started to notice something calling me. I ended up learning about La Virgen de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) from locals (she is in practically every single window, building, and home in town). I gave her an offering of red roses on an anointed/blessed painting of her that is up in the house I am staying in. A day later, I went to a store, looking for something to bring home for my friends when I leave, but instead, I had an hour-long conversation with the owner, who randomly gave me a small statue of the Niño Santo. After that, I was taken to places that sell her image and statues of her as well. I started some divination and meditations specifically on her, and I can already feel her presence changing things in my life in this short period of time. I asked her if there were any ways that I could continue working with her or make daily offerings. Just a few days after this, my host mother(-in-law) randomly gave me a rosary she got from a 2017 trip to the Vatican.

There are some other details I am choosing to keep out, since these are the major parts. I want to also add that I am not Catholic, nor have I ever been Catholic. Although at times I have been drawn to the imagery and the saints, I have never worked with them.

THE QUESTION: Where would be a good place to start with this type of Catholic folk magick? I am very practical in nature and prefer to test things and see what works. However, I want to make sure I am respectful to these spirits that I am working with. Any books, practices, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. My partner and their entire family (who I have been staying with for 2 months now) are Mexican and deeply catholic, although they dabble a bit in the esoteric, like once a decade with a reading or something. Ever since I landed here, I felt how different the presence was, and just the air itself felt more spiritual.

If she calls to you then the thing she likely wants you to do is simply become Catholic. She has no need nor desire of receiving offerings, the only thing that matters to her is how they might be useful for your salvation.

Do what you feel is right. She's not vengeful or anything, so by all means you can decline her. She just wants to help you.

i’ll continue working with her more and see where it leads me. if she really does end up just trying to convert me, then i will politely decline. i’m reading more about her and people who work with her to get a better idea, and it does seem like she either wants people to become catholic or become like her. what interests me thought is her different forms and how they invoke different things, which i want to meditate on more.

Those two things are more or less the same, actually. She's the prime incarnation of Mother Church. If you want to become more like her you'll inevitably become more Christian in the process.
