What is the best tool free method for working with certain angels or spirits? I'm interesting in archangels and shem angels at the current moment.

Depends what do you mean by "best". Might I ask, what do you exactly imagine this work to look like?

A lot of modern books require just the seal. Maybe a candle, some incense. And your head. New Avatar Power for example or the incredible 24 Triangles of the Shemhamephorash.

I would love something simple, like no prep or clean up. Just a formulaic 1+1=2 way of calling up an angel or spirit. Many people have said a sigil, candle & prayer is enough.

The books by the Gallery of Magick. Damon Brand's are mainly about angels and archangels, the sigils themselves are all you need; Zanna Blaise doesn't even bother to mention the Shem angels while using their names in Hebrew as sigils.
I really admire GoM but I find the emotional transmutation part is so difficult for me.

I have certain doubts how much of an angel is a being that can be compeled to answer by a sigil. Angels answer to God, and how much they will answer to humans is strictly in direct proportion to how much they resemble God, to put it simply. There are whole traditions of "working with angels" that have never summoned anything but impostors. This is especially common with beings that introduce themselves with names of Archangels. Thanks to some parts of a rather lengthy initiation process I encounter angels quite regularly but they aren't the type to ever follow your summons, and I have never met a genuine archangel, which is kind of fortunate since it usually means one gets to be part in some largely important but rather unpleasant story.

There are, of course, ways to call more worldly spirits, but the thing with them is that they will usually speak through the depths of your psyche. How you summon them and which ones you'll be able to summon is quite personal, though doesn't have to be very involved.

Honestly, you're not going to get good results on total "no tool" approach. The most minimalist approach is through pentacles of Solomon from the Greater Key and that counts as a tool.
Look into Rufus Opus "Seven Spheres" and BJ Swain's "Luminarium" and "Living Spirits" for a fairy minimalistic styles of work that nonetheless is still using tools.

I'd suggest looking into New Avater Power for a highly effective tool-free approach which can be applied to vitrutally any spirit or circumstance you might want, provided you're creative enough, and only once you're completely familiar with the system. It's entirely tool-free, not even a sigil is required. The only section of the book which discusses any tools is a short course on pendulum divination, but that is not a component of the core method.

Usually when evoking a spirit you typically use their name and sigil, but honestly you can get away with just using their name if they’re a very well known spirit.

Try to write an invocation for the spirit, calling them by their name, title, and attributes, and what you want from them, and reading it out (after you cleanse the space of course) with your full will behind it. I usually use their name at least 3 times in the invocation, and a variety of different titles. You want to try to speak with the part of yourself that can actually speak into the astral, not just speak it into our material world. Say it and mean it!

At that point, you'll need a divination method to actually confirm that you've summoned the spirit, such as a pendulum or tarot cards, but if you want tool-free you can try clairaudience (hard to do but it works, requires a lot of meditation practice) or just use a six-sided die (1-2 for no, 3-4 for uncertain, 5-6 for yes). You can get really simple with it.

Ask the spirit some questions it should know the answer to, and if it answers correctly then you most likely have genuine spiritual contact.

I've had a lot of success with this method, but it also usually works best with spirits who are otherwise inclined to help you (like angels or spirits you have a working relationship with)
