Pyramids/triangles have a lot of different symbolisms across many cultures. Whether it's needed for magic depends on the tradition you're attempting to use.

As for building the pyramids, I assume you mean the Egyptian pyramids, there have been like half a dozen if not more credible methods for how the pyramids could have been built without modern technology. That hasn't been much of a mystery for almost 50 years now.

Every shape is important in magic. The guys directly behind pyramids were the builders and architects of the Egyptian Old Kingdom. Sure, the whole project was at least partially magical in purpose but the stones were put in place by actual people with very much mundane means.

If one sees 'the guys behind pyramids' as the designers and the builders who made a 'resurrection machine ' and all those guys that did the preparations on the bodies and the rites and tomb painters ... yes, we could call them 'wizards', but I think the term 'magicians' suits them better .

Or even better still , some were the 'hry-hb ' ( translated as 'lector priests ' ) who practiced 'heka' ; educated scribes who read sacred and magical spells to protect the king and guide the dead . There were also the 'sem priests' that did parts of the ritual ( like the 'opening of the mouth ' ) , they wore a leopard skin . The Ka Priests who did things like attend daily chores and making offerings . So really they were 'priests' and 'attendants' and 'ritual assistants' to the Chief Magician of them all ... the Pharaoh himself , lying in the tomb .

That's ... 'wildly wizardy ' . :)
