[News] Z-Library has been seized by the FBI

Truly a tragedy. It's still accessible via Tor, but unless you have a premium account, it's pretty unusable because you have a shared IP and other people who download from the same Tor exit node count towards your daily quota.

Yeah it was trending on tiktok. But I'm sure the feds had their scope on it for a while now, but the burst in popularity definitely is the reason they pulled the trigger. Sad.

I wonder how safe is using this place without Tor and feeling fucking stupid. I think will delete the account and create a new one from Tor.

I honestly dont get the point of "digital piracy" one way or the other. I view the internet as one huge library. Whats the problem in so doing? What is the issue in a person educating themselves for free? Yes, some will buy books, like myself, however the prices set by publishers are the main issue in my eyes.

there is no problem mr. delicio. only some occult writers and publishers find it funny to protect themselves with curses so when they get pdf-ed against their will, they attack. which is just as much their right as it is ours to freely download. so we get the feds as police and this site is sort of dancing as neutral in between.;)

The problem is you can be a potential threat not necessary but possible. Knowledge is power.

Here is an idea: Force signups paid for downloads. It would force me to google info I want, but thats a first step in research.
But if someone does not know how to adequately secure a file they dont want downloaded, well, that invites a problem.
As for the people behind the scanning and whatnot, I can't comment other than without them, someone else would have done it.
Doesn't make it right, but that is what libraries are for. And second hand book shops, which again points to the solution pay to download.
The problem is, people want quick solutions and download material to help solve a problem. Doesn't make it wrong, if its for learning.
I see the point, I do, and honestly, I like the actual book in my hands. I once had a very impressive collection, bookcase, overflowing with occult books of all types. Only one store in town now carries such books, who will get my business, them or amazon? Is that the real issue? $$$?

that is what libraries are for
archive.org does have a system where one can 'borrow' books for an hour at a time. I used to visit local public, college and university libraries all the time back in the '90s. Having moved several times since then, I'm not even sure what options are available where I live now. However, it's still not easy to use brick & mortar since the selection would be quite limited in small towns and even medium sized cities.

What is ideal for readers, authors, and publishers? I'm not one who can answer that since everyone has different needs. I do know it is ridiculous for any electronic copy on Amazon to cost as much or more than a physical book.

Exactly. And said authors, unless self publishing binding and distributing, get ripped off by said parties, or perhaps its seen as a costly process and well worth the money. Several independent publishers exist, which makes said party even more ridiculous for over charging. But all business.

Most libraries on college and university campus are no longer accessible except by students and faculty and staff for security measures.
Which leaves the city libraries, or free libraries, or mom and pop stores.

It's simple. ZL was allowed to exist, until the moment students started sharing it on tiktok as an alternative to paying $600 per individual textbook in school/uni. That hit the filthy textbook mafia where it hurt, and they couldn't let it stand. That, really, is the only reason ZL was taken down. Not for occult books, not for secret texts... simply because one of the biggest scams right now is the school/uni textbook industry. Don't believe me? Search on youtube for the prices, new yearly editions with no difference except like 1 word, and the newest edition being mandatory... search about how they have little vouchers in textbooks that you need the code from them in order to pass your class.

It's filthy. They make so much money exploiting the education system. So once people tried to avoid that system, that's when they cracked down on ZL.

That is crystal clear to me now. Wow. That sucks for independent/self-learner students like myself.

Ive browsed science books on there, and were for and only for research, Im not an avid science or math lover. I see how that can cut into the poverty stricken pockets of the professors, regents, and publisher execs.

I still dont buy any of it as a threat, due to someone wanting to research or learn Chemistry, Botany (both related to alchemy as modern progression), or astronomy (to better understand the space systems, astrology and general stars of interest. Again, not an avid scientist, just learning to learn the transferable applications to the older systems.
