I have three clear quartz, while laying down I place the first one on my Third eye, Heart charka, and Sacral Charka. Then I ask the stones what I want to accomplish and visualise the stones becoming brighter each time I take deep breathes. I sometimes feel a cooling energy exactly where I wanted it to go. I feel better after that but as you said, the stones by themselves are insufficient.

I think cleansing the stones at least once a week is essential even though guides say one of the powers that clear quartz's have is to cleanse and directing energies. Apparently they never really need any cleansing at all. (Unless I read that bit wrong)

Either the thing leaves when you ask or it requires coercion. You can attempt to come up with other reasons why a thing might wish to stay, but unless it just thought it was doing a favor, the friendly associate still absorbed emotional pain if nothing else, and I wouldn't say it was nothing else. Not that the exchange in it's case was one sided.

I'd like to think I've accomplished some of both, but given the latter, I would largely quantify thoughts as brain-shit. The esotericist emphasize the development of the centers. I develop doctrine (thoughts) as a contributive hobby.
