I am someone of Chinese/Taiwanese descent who grew up in the West.

Growing up, my household was bicultural, meaning that we watched both eastern & western movies, were bilingual and celebrated both eastern & western holidays. As an adult, I've now moved back to Asia and rekindled my interest in Taoism, which was always in the background of all the movies I watched growing up.

By the way, I've noticed the yin yang sign or taijitu on this forum, which is based on Taoism, which of course, is native to China.

I now live in Southeast Asia with my wife. A few years ago, I had my first ever supernatural experience, where I saw a ghost. Intrigued, I turned to learning more about the supernatural & and the occult.

A few months ago, I began to take the study of the occult more seriously, so now I have immersed myself in meditation, Taoism, candle magic, healing crystals.

I'm looking forward to connecting with other occultists. :D

i first learned the taoist terms in Mandarin Chinese (and other dialect) as a kid, and then learned what they were in English as an adult. Once it becomes translated, the terms and words feel different. I guess it's because some things cannot be translated entirely but only approximated. I work as a translator and interpreter for my day job so I think about these kind of cultural and linguistic factors.

Welcome to this forum. As someone born and raised in China, I too am interested in Taoism. I can seldom see anything about Taoism in this forum, I hope I can make friends with you.

Absolutely! Me too. Are you still living in China now? Did you learn about Taoism in China? I learned about it overseas.

Yes, I do currently live in China. As well as I do know about Taoism related knowledge. The knowledge of Taoism is very complex and vast and there are many things that are difficult to express in English.

I understand. I grew up watching movies like 倩女幽魂 and I thought it was very cool to see the taoist priest perform all the magic to fight the demons and ghosts.
