Yes consecration of tools is important. Especially if you are evoking a spirit into an object.

As for substitutions you absolutely can but certain spirits will be annoyed or angered if you use the wrong materials. The point of using associative materials is they contain pieces of the essence that the spirit participates in, there are also certain smells and objects a spirit enjoys and is attracted to. They will usually be a little forgiving of the first conjuration but make sure you ask them what they would prefer and they will let you know. Any deviation of materials beyond what they directly tell you to use is viewed as disrespectful and irreverent. Paying attention to detail with spirits is viewed as a sign of respect and if you willingly and intentionally use the wrong materials out of laziness or low effort this will annoy them. If you substitute materials based off of necessity then they are much more forgiving and will guide you to the proper things you need and have access to.

When picking substitutions ask yourself what the spirit participates in, and why the materials in the spell you read are being utilized. For example if a spell tells me to use onions with a spirit of Saturn why is that? Onions have a pungent smell, they are very strong and can be offputting and stinky. Why is this associated with Saturn? Because Saturn governs decay and the smell of a corpse is pungent and off putting. So if I do not have onions on hand what do I have on hand that participates in that same quality? I can substitute with that. If you follow that line of thinking it becomes easy to use substitutions. But lets say I substitute the onion with for example garlic, and the spirit shows up and tells me "next time use onions". Then the next time I conjure it I will make sure I have the onion as the spirit has requested.

Ah I see! Thanks bunch! I will most certainly consecrate the mirror before using! Im just gonna put this book down for now. I've been reading the black Bible of the Adversary by Michael W. Ford and. Ialso have his Apotheosis book and the Draconian ritual books by Asenath I think I'll probably focus on those books 1st before going back to the Qliphothic book.
U have a nice day sir!

Interesting topic. Your problem is obviously easily solved, just buy some black candles and consecrate your tool. On a purely psychological level, I'd always have the niggling thought in my mind that I really should have used some black candles, thus disturbing my own focus and the ritual's overall atmosphere.

Substitutions are another matter. Some time ago there was a question regarding a recipe from an old grimoire requiring mole's blood - ethical questions aside, how would you go about catching such an elusive animal? I suggested beetroots because they grow underground as well and their juice is blood red, too. Some rituals in the

call for animal sacrifices as well, and I've read accounts of practitioners fashioning clay figurines instead. In general, many recipes in ancient grimoire demand such exotic ingredients that you can't help but wonder if they're not blinds or even jokes; some of them used to be relatively common (parts of mummies were used in medicine in days gone by, for example) but are impossible to get hold of today.

Incantations: another tricky question. Sometimes you read adjurations that are downright Gothic-kitschy, sound like a nursery rhyme or slightly rub you the wrong way. I'd say it's ok to change an adjective or replace or omit a clumsy sentence here or there as long as you leave the

alone:

Change not the barbarous Names of Evocation for they are sacred Names in every language which are given by God, having in the Sacred Rites a Power Ineffable. (Chaldean Oracles 155, also GD Practicus Ritual)

Are you allowed to translate incantations? Asenath Mason is Polish so in which language does she conduct her rituals? The grimoires were originally written in Latin or Old German, for Psalm magic you'd strictly speaking need Hebrew, and as far as the PGM are concerned, there have been discussions here as to correctly pronounce Demotic Koiné Greek (answer: nobody knows). If you leave them in their original language you don't understand, you'll end up with nothing but barbarous names in a ritual you'd be hard put to learn by heart, so in these cases translations are as good as unavoidable.

My own assumption is that a ritual only works if you are able to perform it with 100 % conviction and genuine heartfelt emotion; anything that stands in the way of fullfilment of these criteria should be modified or eliminated.

Absolutely this; this is why people can invent completely new rituals and still succeed.

Note that I'm not a demonolotor or anything but consecration is pretty important. Items have no power on their own (usually) so consecrating them or blessing them empowers them. Otherwise you're using latent items in your spiritual work. That's like putting dead batteries in your Xbox controller and expecting it to work. So I would definitely consecrate the mirror.

To the first part of your question in regards to the candle; can you leave out the black candle. You can but should you? Why does the ritual require both black and red? Usually there's a reason for tool requirements and IMO before you remove a tool you should understand why it was required in the first place. Let's use a mundane example - if you have no idea why cars need a timing belt do you really think it's a good idea to just omit it altogether? I would hope not! Or else you won't be going anywhere anytime soon in that car. If "as above so below" is true then examples like this would be true across the spectrum. My advice here would be to find out why the both the black and red is needed and then from there you can make a better determination on if you can leave it out or not.

Buy a few black candles if it's stressful enough to ask about
